I am running BOINC and SETI under Windows 10 evaluation copy. Computing preferences for GPU use and other settings change to default values after win10 updates. You get win10 updates without warning or choice. My values for cpu usage and idle time prior to (re)starting SETI also change. Any suggestions how to keep my settings intact?

You get win10 updates without warning or choice.

I'm not sure BilBg's suggestion on Win10's privacy issues properly address your problem. Regardless of Win10's controversial decision to force updates automatically, this has nothing to do with BOINC and/or SETI@home.

So the real question becomes: where are you setting your preferences and why are they getting reset? Can you provide any information from your BOINC logs to show the ongoing communication as well as tell us where you set your preferences (online or local)?

To make my preference changes I am in the BOINC MANAGER WINDOW, then click on TOOLS, then click on COMPUTING PREFERENCES, then select PROCESSOR USAGE panel.
Make my changes and the click OK. This is done localy on my PC.
On this PROCESSOR USAGE panel, I select USE GPU WHILE COMPUTER IS IN USE, enter ZERO in WHILE PROCESSOR IS LESS THAN x%. Enter my favorite precentage (usually 100) in ON MULTI PROCESSOR SYSTEMS, and USE AT MOST (usually 80) x% CPU TIME. I make my changes and the click OK. Processor and usage perecentages change depending on what else I may want the PC for in addition to running SETI.
Update happens to Win 10 and my preferences vanish. Same thing happens on my desktop upgraded from Win8.1 to 10 and on the desktop running the Win 10 evaluation copy. The evaluation copy machine will revert back to LINUX but it is too late to revert the upgraded 8.1 desktop back to 8.1 ( I deleted folder WINDOWS.OLD to recover 22GB of disk).

After you save the local preferences, can you tell me if in your BOINC data directory you see a file called global_prefs_override.xml?

Then after you get an update, can you check to see if that file still exists at that point?

Also, what is the BOINC log saying after you create the preferences locally? Is it able to save the file at all or are you getting an error or access denied?
