The drug sniffing car: Texas researchers say vehicle can pinpoint homes of drug users from a quarter of a MILE away

  • Drug-sniffing tool detects suspicious chemicals in the air and alert officers
  • This allows for real-time analysis and can locate origin of the chemicals
  • Technology has use in environmental research and criminal investigation

A 'drug-sniffing' car developed by researchers at the University of North Texas can track down drug users from a quarter of a mile away.

The device, demonstrated in an electric Ford sedan, allows a police cruiser to detect nearby drugs based on their chemical signatures, according to CBS DFW.

Researchers say the portable device can pinpoint the location of the suspicious chemicals and provide officers access to real time analysis on site.

People do the stupidest things feature:
'Eat corn with a drill' challenge turns out disastrously for young girl
According to the internet, people have been attempting to eat corn on the cob using a power drill.

A girl in China decided she'd try her luck at the "challenge" and ended up demonstrating one reason why it's a terrible idea.

A chunk of her hair quickly got wrapped around the spinning corn, which yanked it right out of her head.

The teen appeared mostly unfazed by the spectacular fail, but she's then shown being examined by a doctor. The doctor reportedly said it will eventually grow back.

WATCH on YouTube

The stunt is said to have originated with this person in China, but don't try it.

How does one NOT know they have been shot???

Deputies: Deltona man finds bullet hole 3 days after shooting himself

A Deltona man shot himself while cleaning a handgun but did not discover the bullet hole in his arm until three days later when he changed shirts, Volusia County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies were called to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in Orange City on Saturday where Michael Blevins, 37, had checked himself after discovering the bullet wound, investigators said.

Blevins told deputies that on Thursday he was cleaning a .22 caliber pistol in the living room of his home, a report stated.

The guy from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives is opening a restaurant downtown, here. I doubt I'll ever go, but I do like his shows.

‘A little embarrassed’: Woman follows car’s GPS straight into Lake Huron

TOBERMORY, Ont. – A woman trying to navigate a foggy night in Ontario ended up driving straight into Lake Huron Thursday, according to police.

The 23-year-old Kitchener, Ontario, resident was following her car’s GPS when she somehow lost her way at the Little Tub Harbour boat launch. It was after midnight when she took the fateful turn, and suddenly felt her red Toyota Yaris filling with sub-40 degree water as it sank.

Stolen Scooby-Doo 'Mystery Machine' crashes into home in St. Paul (MN)

Police said a stolen van painted as the "Mystery Machine" from Scooby-Doo crashed into a home in St. Paul early Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on the 1000 block of 4th Street East. Sgt. Mike Ernster said the van went through a fence before destroying wooden steps leading up to the house.

Two teenage suspects were located when law enforcement arrived on scene. No injuries were reported.

St. Paul Police Department made light of the incident on Friday, tweeting, "Zoinks! They would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for that meddling house in the way. Suspects located."

How smart are the school administration and/or teacher(s)...
Misspellings and all, Texas 2nd grader's note gets her home early

I can absolutely see how this one happened. Over the years I have worked with many children of parents who do not speak English as a first language. Often their literacy skills in their primary language are limited as well, due to the parents having had quite limited access to education in their native countries. A note like the one in this article could easily have been written by an adult with limited English proficiency and/or limited educational exposure.

I have also worked with some children whose parents have severe learning challenges. A note like the one in this article could easily have been written by an adult with limited literacy skills secondary to learning challenges.

Agree, however one would expect the teacher to recognize the child's handwriting as hers and not the parents. Unless it is one of those backwards schools where students aren't required to use a pen and paper.
