Message 1718848 - Posted: 27 Aug 2015, 0:05:01 UTC

So I ran EVGA PrecisionX16 program just to tweak some things.
Now seti@home says the GPU is missing. Everything seems to work
fine though. Computers boots, programs run, videos play nice
and smooth.
I have a GTX 780. I reinstalled the driver, reinstalled seti@home,
reboots multiple times. WCG and rosetta@home run fine(though
they are not using the GPU.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

turn off BOINC and Precision X

Clean Install the driver for Nvidia again.

After it install, next run Precision X then restart BOINC and see if the GPU is there

Can you post first 30 lines of the event log?

If it says no GPUs, windows will not report them either.

So even though the card seems to be running fine with Windows, there could still be a GPU problem?

wow. I let windows reinstall the driver(instead of using the one from Nvidia's website) and the GPU has returned!

Thanks for the responses!

Unusual.
Usually letting Windows install it's preferred driver results in nothing but trouble.
Using the Nvidia installer & doing a clean installation is generally the best method.

Michael, sometimes the latest driver (default Nvidia) download is not the best one to use either. You can go to the Nvidia website and look for all drivers and install one a bit older.
Do Not do anything now as you are working fine...just remember in the future, and especially do the Clean Install from Custom Install (not the Express Install).

I always use the custom install so I can avoid installing the freaking GEforce experience or whatever. I am not a gamer, so I don't need that crap cluttering things up.
And always do the clean install bit. It tends to get rid of anything that Winders decided to do on it's own.

And the latest and greatest drivers are not always the best.
I reinstall what is working, unless there is good reason to upgrade.

LOL....like I says....I goes with what is working.

And, if you notice, that is not the most recent, either NV drivers OR Boinc.

Only reason I install Geforce Experience is that there is an LED Customization feature on it that lets me turn off the LED on the cards. Otherwise the lights at night would keep me awake, lol

A piece of black electrical tape works too. <BG> I put a cutout disc of self-stick felt over the LED lighting on the H-105 water pump to prevent it from keeping me awake. The other system faces the wall where I can't see its light leaking from the fan grill on the panel side.
