continuously.

I closed the window so I don't have to see it but not sure why it is doing that.

Preferences are set to run only when computer is not in use but they are running right now.

May have to find an earlier version if this continues.

Downgrading to 7.2.24 made no difference, hmmm...

It's because you're got the logging flag task_debug set.

OK, thinking more about the underlying cause, rather than the symptom.

Cycling the same tasks once every second sounds like BOINC's version of thermal throttling.

Did you perhaps set "Use at most 50% of CPU time", when you meant to set "Use at most 50% of the CPUs"?

Edit - check both your default web-based global preferences, as well as any override set through the Manager since you got that machine.

Well I checked and the setting for a mac are "Use at most 50% of CPU time" so I change it to 100%

That seems to have resolved the issue.

Is it set to 50% on install? I don't remember messing with the preferences when I installed it yesterday.

If you didn't set anything locally, then it'll use whatever it picks up from your web-based preferences. Those are under your control, too (including which of the four available 'venue' packages should be used as default).
