Henceforth I will be discussing my television and my plans to repair it in my new thread entitled "My Samsung UN55D6050TF 55" TV thread". In this thread I will welcome discussion of television repairs and other issues that come up with electronics. It is a thread for people, like me, who like to take apart machines and repair them. I lost track of how much money you have spent on the TV up to this point |

Currently I'm waiting for the 1st to roll around, so that I can buy a fairly rare power board, a Samsung BN44-00424A, to repair My TV with, there are so far only 2 available, all on ebay, there was a 3rd earlier, but that one sold for $94.00, the other two are going for $102.65(New, other, $90.00+12.65 shipping) and one for $149.90(Used, $139.95+9.95 shipping). I did search high and low on the net, everywhere I looked had none in stock. I'd asked Fixya.com what I should do and they said to replace the power board or repair the board, Fixya.com was recommended by ShopJimmy.com. My other choice would be to take the TV out of service and spend at least $94.95 to repair My power board, the repair has a 180 day warranty, for 1yr that's an extra $9.50, 2yrs $18.50 from ShopJimmy.com. I say at least since I don't know how much shipping would be to ShopJimmy's address in Minnesota. Oh and soon enough I'll be able to get rid of the old tv. I'll jump in with my experience as a TV repair do-it-yourselfer. When we got married my wife had/has an LG flatscreen. Shortly after getting married and moving, the remote quit working. After verifying the remote itself was in fact functional, and finding numerous reports of the IR receiver being a weak spot in that LG model, I found a new IR board for $7 locally and swapped it out. Fixed it... once again could keep my carcass parked on the couch and change channels with the remote. For about two weeks... then the same dead remote symptoms returned. Long story short, it seems the problem all along was a dirty/sticky switch in a jack on the back of the TV, the jack being for an LG hard wired plugin remote. After scrounging a repair manual online I found that if there is a wired remote plugged in, it shuts down the infrared receiver, all from a flakey little reed switch there in the wired remote jack. A little canned air and some contact cleaner and the IR remote has worked fine for a year and a half so far. I guess maybe I should have RTFM to start with. :) |

I lost track of how much money you have spent on the TV up to this point I spent just $307.00, some on the tv, some on the stand, shipping an incorrect tv part back to the seller, screws for the stand, some adapter cables(video and component), gasoline for the car, a burger and such for the trip, since I needed the energy, plus I'd gotten a payday loan to help pay for the tv and such, which was the reason why I was reluctant to go beyond the initial amount, the loan has been paid off of course. And yes I'm getting another loan on the 1st. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Vic, if I had the money I would Thanks, but since the repair is simple, I can do this, I repaired two lcd monitors that each had a power board problem, and the tv, except for being BIGGER, is not really any different in this regard, it's just that the power/led inverter board parts are like, out of stock and out of production, so finding parts is the trick. Though 48.7 lbs is near My limit for lifting, I barely managed to lift the tv into the current position from the sofa. Paying for them is just a matter of budgeting a bit and knowing about what I spend, yeah I keep track of how much stuff costs at the super market and what other monthly expenses I incur, I don't like paying the bank $34 plus $15 for an overdraft, so now I'm also waiting for a reloadable debit card from H&R Block, which except for deposits made at places like Walmart, is totally free, of course I can't drop My current bank account, since there are no paper checks from H&R Blocks Emerald Card, and the rent here still for the moment requires paper checks. Of course right now is a case of bad timing, since I have to get My car smogged(I'm getting a senior discount now on the smog test, yay!), pay the dmv fee on the car, replace two breakers(gas central heater) and 1 or 2 outlets(1 is where the a/c is at, the other is in the kitchen) in the house, then property taxes.. I'm using the remote for the Samsung GX530 cable box that I own(the 530 has a multi-stream cable card slot in the back of the box), instead of the tv remote, but that's only cause for most functions, the stock tv remote is not needed. Me too at first, but you know how Don't feel bad Celt some of My distant relatives are Canadians who are in Quebec and some were Canadians before they came here in 1850, My family trees trip from France is a bit complicated and partly unknown, though from 1770 I do know at least who's who and where they approximately lived at. Well that tears it, the used BN44-00424A for $149.90 was sold, so it's down to 1 board, the New/other power board for $102.65, sigh I think that one will be sold soon too, that's My fear and then if that happens, well it means I will have to wait until another board shows up, and yes I have a worldwide search setup on ebay for this power board. The board looks like this one here. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I'm confused. Isn't this the tv you drove all day to get? What exactly is wrong with it? The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I'm confused. Isn't this the tv you drove all day to get? What exactly is wrong with it? Yes, it is, the tv was known to have a problem when I bought it, one problem was the backlighting was not working in one corner and that corner has at least twice lit itself up and then there was the lack of a stock tv stand, I bought that and now the TV has a stand, which added almost 10 lbs to the tvs weight, with the stand the tv weighs 48.7 lbs, beyond that the tv works perfectly. All I have to do, is to replace the tvs power board. This illustrates the problem. This shows the leds do work and that as fixya.com said, I just need to replace the power board, this board also controls the led backlighting voltage. You might see part of the stand under the TV, it's transparent plastic, the bottom of the stand is made of glass & steel w/some rubber feet and the stand does swivel some. Vic bought a secondhand TV hoping nothing was wrong with it. It now has intermittent shading on the screen and, so he's been told, it needs a new power board. So he is trying to buy a second hand one to repair the second hand TV. That is about the nub of it. Oh and he had to buy a stand for it as well. I knew before hand that there was something wrong with the TV Chris S, the seller had disclosed that already, plus the seller showed a picture of the TV while working, He just didn't know what was the cause of the problem nor how to fix this, I on the other hand, do know what to do to fix this. Since the power boards are not being made, I have to buy a board, used or New, New is all that is available now, I'd discovered after I bought the tv, that some parts are just not made anymore. The tv was made in August of 2011. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

I knew you had trouble with the bulbs on your old set. This reminds me of a Sony CRT computer monitor I bought many moons ago. I noticed a very faint horizontal line across the picture, and returned it to the store, only to find out that "line" was a normal part of the workings of that style of Sony set. ;~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I knew you had trouble with the bulbs on your old set. The old set, is just old, it wasn't the lamps, since I'd went thru 3 lamps that were brand new, possibly the DLP chip or the psu board is at fault and no I'm not interested in opening a 9yr old DLP tv, which I'll be able to get rid of soon, someone will pick it up soon, all for $1. The nearest service center is about 50 miles away and I don't have a way to get the old tv there and back, so it's up to a bidder on ebay to deal with, in about 1.5 days, though the time for pickup is up to the winning bidder.
