Message 1711710 - Posted: 12 Aug 2015, 13:45:33 UTC

So I had a new experience. This morning while checking the computer I noticed all the open boxes where moved to the top of the desttop. I figured this was due to the resolution setting on the monitor and that it had been off over night. As I moved the open boxes to different parts of the desktop, Precision X was in the upper left corner. When I clicked on it and attempted to move it to a lower portion of the screen, the screen momentarily lagged. When it cleared, Precision X was not to be found anywhere on the desktop.

I've closed and opened the program a few times and have even rebooted the computer twice. I even did a google search on line to see if anyone else had seen this. I even looked at Microsoft for an answer. I got this

1. Go to start and type regedit.exe.
2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
3. Double click the 'ForegroundLockTimeout' key. Change the notation to decimal.
4. The default value should be 200000 millisecond in decimal, or 200 seconds. Click OK.
5. Restart your computer and check if the issue persists.

Be even with this, I still can't see the program.

I've tried unistalling and reinstalling, same effect.

The good news is that it still is running but I'm unable to adjust the fan curve like I had it.

Any Ideas?

I haven't encountered this problem myself... However; what about:

Start --> All Programs --> EVGA Precision X

Right click on Precision X Shortcut there, and click "Pin to Start Menu". Repeat, and "Pin to Taskbar". Then launch from Start Menu to make fan adjustments. Also, right click on Shortcut again, and "Send To" --> Desktop, and see if it will put the Shortcut back on the Desktop that way.

this won't directly address your issue but it might be worth a shot to see if downloading/installing msi afterburner would allow you to change the fan curves.

Hey TL,

The shortcut is on the desktop, and on the start menu. It just doesn't show the GUI on the desktop. It's running cause the fans on the GPU are responding to the defaults but I can't access the GUI. It's weird.

Sorry, I misunderstood... I thought that your Shortcut had disappeared... (D'Oh!!!)

I did have a problem recently with Ver 5.3.6 on Prometheus, (GTX-750 TI), in Win 7 Pro x64. It would just stop running, and would disappear from the Tray icons. I had to back down a couple versions... Now on 5.2.7 and working fine.

Is it one of the "hidden" icons on the taskbar? That's where mine always resides. If you have a "<" symbol down there, click on that to see what's hidden.

I've thought about that as well. I have a copy of an older Precision X floating around here somewhere. I might try installing that and see if I get the GUI back

No, it would completely disappear from going into a NON working status, I checked... Once I backed down to 5.2.7 the issue resolved itself and the icon remains in the Tray.

My Win 7 tray from right to left shows Speaker/Vol Adj., Ethernet Connectivity, Action Center, "Get Win 10", then an arrow to the hidden Tray. In the hidden Tray, the 5.3.6 Version would Go Away Completely! ie: Disappear, as in Shut Down.

There was a Precision X image there. I clicked on it and it produced a GUI that says PrecisionX 16 Server and a bunch of .exe files to the right of the commands are OSD x 0 and below that is OSY 0

Then add, delete, default under the .exe

I've never seen this GUI before and don't even know what it does, weird....
