Naw, that is for Microsoft's company flag! I thought hashes most appropriate because that is just what they make of it. Don't get me wrong, Americans are lovely people, been there East and West coasts and met them. Lovely geography too, Niagara Falls, the Rockies etc. Just crap politics, unworkable laws, useless administrations. The American people deserve better than they get. I'd love to see another American Civil War, the people rising up against the politicians. I'd support them. But I must stop, else this will get moved to politics. And I won't post there on principle. What do you mean by "hashes"? I'm thinking this might be different depending on if you're English or American. ~Sue~ |

I don't have a smartphone, so I really don't know how the signatures on emails from them work, but can people turn off the little tag line that says, "Sent from my iPhone"? It's obviously an advertisement for the gadget, and kind of annoying to me. How does one get these forums on one's iPhone? "Sent from my iPhone" is the default "signature" when you buy the device. They expect people to go in and change it but, if they don't, then yes, it's advertising. ~Sue~ |

The Constitution of 1791, is the same one with 27 amendments added, there has been no new US Constitution written or approved of, if you think there was, then where is your proof? Please provide a link. The US on July 4th 2016 will be 225 years old, if the FAILED Articles and the Declaration of Independence are included, the US is 240 years old on July 4th 2016. 1800 is twelve years before the war of 1812 with England, John Adams was the 2nd President of the US under the US Constitution. John Adams: President of the United States (1797 - 1801) · Vice President of the United States (1789 - 1797) The 1st President of Congress was John Hancock in 1776, He's the guy who signed His name bigger than anyone else on the Declaration of Independence(so that mad King George III could see His signature without Georges glasses), a Document that could have gotten any of the signers hanged on charges of High Treason to the Crown of England. Also there were 8 Presidents under the Articles of Confederation prior to George Washington, each serving a 1 year term and who were elected by Congress. 1. John Hanson 2. Elias Boudinot 3. Thomas Mifflin 4. Richard Henry Lee 5. John Hancock 6. Nathaniel Gorham 7. Arthur St. Clair 8. Cyrus Griffin Cyrus Griffin returned to the Congress of the Confederation in 1787 along with James Madison and John Brown and served the last term as its president prior to the adoption of the Federal Constitution. Not written down????????? This is the Tenth Amendment: Cornell.edu wrote: Amendment X I never said the 10th was not written down in the constitution, only that States Rights does not appear anywhere in the US Constitution, show Me a legit link(not fox or heritage or breitbart) with those two words and I will concede, until then, you don't have a leg to stand on, in other words, checkmate. Yes this thread has definitely strayed. Angela may well be a little busy currently and not had a chance to read the latest posts. At this point I don't wish to move or hide posts however I think it might be best if anything political is avoided. Thank you. |

How does one get these forums on one's iPhone? To get this on your iPhone. Just use the Internet and log in like you do on your cruncher. |

How does one get these forums on one's iPhone? I can get the internet on my little flip phone, too, but it takes a lot of scrolling. ;~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

My last word on the subject: Vic, if the basis of your argument is that the WORDS "states' rights" don't appear in the Constitution, you are probably right but exceedingly pedantic. Whether or not those words are used, that is what the relevant clauses are about. (I believe this does not count as actual politics.) Angela is not backward in coming forward, if she is unhappy about the way this thread has drifted, she will soon say so. But yes I agree with the Eye, we should leave the USA States and Federal matters to another thread elsewhere. It should be in politics, but if so I will decline to participate. LOL!!! "Not backward in coming forward" is a very cute way of putting that, Chris! Thank you for the compliment. I have, indeed, been quite busy lately and I see that I have arrived late to the party. Truth be told, I am quite conflicted. On one hand, I just love a messy thread and I feel that nothing should be completely "off topic" here in the Critter Cafe. I have always wanted this to be a place where "Critter People" come together to discuss whatever is on their minds... kindly, politely and respectfully, of course. That being said, this thread should not be in violation of the general rules of these forums. If a topic being discussed in the Critter Cafe is political in nature, and the discussion moves beyond a few casual comments between participants, then I do ask that, out of courtesy for Cafe readers, the participants move their discussion to the Politics area and continue it there. My hope is that people will police themselves. Sometimes a discussion turns political, and it is not really anybody's fault. It is just the way some discussions meander. I think that is what has happened here. I feel no need to move or hide posts. I thank Bernie for handling this thread with a light moderating touch and I completely agree with his advice. Critter people are awesome!!! If further discussion of a political nature is indicated, I trust that all the participants will display the maturity to move the discussion to another venue. |

It does seem that us awesome critter people would like, on occasions, to discuss political matters a little more deeply and in a kind, polite, and respectful manner. We won't get that in Main politics, the usual gang will gatecrash it and ruin it. Chris, since I joined seti I have had the pleasure of discussing impolite dinner conversation topics (politics, religion and even you-know-what!!!) with a variety of people through the pm system. Perhaps that will work for you? Perhaps we need a Critter political thread to ourselves? If you wish to start a thread to discuss political issues in our Raccoon Lovers team forum, I happen to know first hand that your team founder will not stand in your way! Many people who post in the Critter Cafe are also on our team. (Just know that all are welcome on Team Raccoon Lovers. I will never turn anyone away who wishes to join our team.) Still, starting a politics thread in our team forum might work for you. In addition, you are also free to create as many new accounts as you wish and use one of them to start your own team at seti. Your team would automatically be assigned a team forum. If you made your team "by invitation only" (like the GPUUG does) you could discuss whatever you wish with your invited teammates on your team forum. Being able to create multiple accounts and found multiple teams is a system that might work for you. You could still enjoy the company of your original BT team members with your primary account. You could enjoy the company of your fellow Raccoon Lovers with your second account and you could enjoy the company of your politically active "by invitation only" team members with your third account. Alternatively, I have known people who have set up private (by invitation only) forums that are completely independent of seti. That is yet another option for you. Personally, I enjoy the seti Politics area. I don't post there often, primarily because when I do I am instantly reminded that it requires great effort, sucks up all my free time and is intellectually exhausting. Trying to write a thoughtful, well reasoned post defending a position against six people attacking it from different angles is not for the faint of heart!!! Still, I'm not above a good lazy lurk over there, now and again. If the Politics area isn't working for you (or for anyone frustrated with that area of the seti forums) I hope that you are able to explore one of the above solutions to your problem. |

Getting attacked 6 ways, fighter pilots train for about 10 I've heard. It helps if one has some source material to draw upon, some links, push back sometimes just requires knowledge of a subject, not to mention persistence, since some will change the goal posts by changing the subject, as they go down in flames... Tell you what I went outside tonight and there was a black and white kitty cat, did everything to keep dogger inside. Oh man it was strong smelling. Tomorrow is garbage day and I guess that's one reason, :)) |

I don't think this is particularly true. From what I have seen, the seti forums are more lively and diverse than they have ever been. We have more female posters than ever, and more of a range of people than ever, with different views and different backgrounds. I am not sure what you dislike about that, but Angela's suggestions seem an excellent way for you to regain the control you feel you have lost. You would be able to surround yourself with like minded people and that might be less stressful for you. Myself, I love hearing all the different perspectives people have, whether that is their political views, or stories about their personal lives. No where else would you get to talk to so many people different from yourself. Reality Internet Personality |

Ideologues don't even listen much less hear the 'different perspectives' that conflict with the dogma of their own beliefs. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

My experiences confirm the perfect ways to start heated discussions that will de-evolve into nasty arguments are: Discuss politics Discuss religion. So why bother? Besides, I am the only person that is right about either. Janice |
