Check out this new book jacket. I love it!

Although, if I ever saw a raccoon that actually looked
like that, I'd run.

Look at that he even has a lazy eye that is so funny

I think that's supposed to be a reflection. But go ahead
and interpret it any way you want to. :-)

They are supposed to have a thriving colony here, but so far I've failed to spot any in the wild.
Maybe I'll be more lucky when we have our own garden.

I think it has been mentioned you can attract them with cat food?

I seriously hope they won't go after my bee hives though!

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-keep-larger-animals-out-of-your-beehive.html says:

Raccoons and skunks can wreck hives

Raccoons are clever animals. They easily figure out how to remove the hive’s top to get at the tasty treats inside. Placing a heavy rock on the hive’s outer cover is a simple solution to a pesky raccoon problem.

Skunks are insect eaters by nature. When they find insects that have a sweet drop of honey in the center . . . bonanza! Skunks and their families visit the hive at night and scratch at the entrance until bees come out to investigate. When they do . . . they’re snatched up by the skunk and . . . gulp!

Putting your hive on an elevated stand is an effective solution for skunk invasions. The skunk then must stand on his hind legs to reach the hive’s entrance. That exposes his tender underbelly to the bees.

Another solution is hammering a bunch of nails through a plank of plywood (about two-feet square) and placing it in front of the hive with the nail points sticking up. Like a bed of nails. No more skunks. Just be sure you remember the plank’s there when you go stomping around the hive.

I think if I were you I'd avoid trying to attract any animals to
any property near the hives.

What emails? You mean something besides the PMs?

There's nothing in my PMs. The "person" who PM'd me
hasn't resent yet.

My mom was out shopping for a short time and saw something
that made her think of me and that gave her a chuckle. She
bought it for me and I received it today.

A closeup:

And the back, if you're interested:

Just in case you're confused, it's a collector's plate in
a wooden frame.

I chuckled, too, when I saw it. I love it!

Such things are so nice.
I got from a friend, a gift from across the pond.

A kitty tile.
Ceramic tile with a black and white pic of a Maine Coon momma kitty with a kit looking over here shoulder.
It is now propped up on one of the computers where I can glance at it for a quick smile at any moment. And I do need those quick smiles at times.

Such things are so nice.
Thank you, my friend.

Meow.

Number 23 of 3005 if I'm reading that right.
That is a pretty low number, early in the run.
Usually better quality. Take good care of it,
might increase in value over time.

Some of you may know I live in Croydon. South London, famous in the 60's and 70's as a souless town full of tall buildings.

Then in 2011 famous for the iconic image of the riots.

The 144 year old Reeves furniture store in flames.

So it is not surprising that Croydon is not exactly famous for its wildlife, and especially not deer.

So it was something of a shock yesterday when on my daily walk in my local park I was approached by a parkeeper who warned me there was a large red deer in the park.

Now this park is bounded on the west by the deep cutting for the London Brighton railway line, on the east by large houses with high fences and north and south by busy main roads.

So how did it get here.

There are no know red deer within 20 miles.

Well it now appears that it was spotted on the railway embankment and someone from the railway security opened a gate in the fence and let it into the park. So it possibly walked along the railway!! Seeing as we have all 3rd rail here it is a wonder it was not electrocuted!!

The park has now been closed as it is quite a large animal and if spooked could possibly cause damage with those antlers.

So the question is now what to do?

It cannot stay there, however to transport it anywhere it would have to be darted, but the rules a regulations about using a dart gun in a public place (the park) are long and tortuous, the shooter has to be properly certified, there has to be a vet and certified nurse present and the dart cannot be fired if there is any chance of a miss resulting in the dart being lost!! And of course no public within range.

It made the local news.

Stag on the loose

And later the London news

Evening Standard

The other problem is of course sightseers who despite warnings on all the gates are getting in and trying to get close up pictures. All of mine were taken from a long way off.

Yeah, Deer antlers are nothing to get near, the antlers are very sharp I've read, there have been people attacked by Deer, they are wild animals after all, nice pics again Bernie.

In 2014 came 19 tip from the public about suspicious raccoons in Sweden. One of them was confirmed when a dead raccoon was found on a beach outside Falsterbo in March. The year before, was captured and killed a raccoon outside Gamleby (been there) Småland. It was also found that the female had given birth.

- Raccoon settle happily in human buildings. You might hear something in the attic, looking up and then it's a raccoon female there who bred a litter and repaired latrines. Killer slug is a small breeze by comparison if we would get an establishment of raccoon in Sweden, says PA Åhlén expert on invasive predators Hunters Association.
