I guess I'm a pessimist because I think whoever wins that prize
will be on a hit list. PCH will make sure "for life" only lasts
a few years!

Check out this new book jacket. I love it!

Although, if I ever saw a raccoon that actually looked
like that, I'd run.

Sue, check the laws in your area. Out here, raccoons cannot be re-located. If trapped by a company they have to be put down.

If you are doing the re-locating yourself, you can potentially be sued for releasing a problem animal in someone else's area. Make sure you release the raccoon someplace with food and water and no people. This may require considerable driving. Also, if you are doing the re-locating yourself, please make sure that "he" is actually a "he", and not a nursing mother.

A better solution would be to get a litter box for the night use of your cats. Keep them locked in your house at night and find a way to temporarily secure the cat door shut at night.

They are supposed to have a thriving colony here, but so far I've failed to spot any in the wild.
Maybe I'll be more lucky when we have our own garden.

I think it has been mentioned you can attract them with cat food?

I seriously hope they won't go after my bee hives though!

Look harder, the raccoon is hidden in the reflection taking the pic.

Yes The black reflection looks like a dog.
Or a raccoon in the shadow...

How does a raccoon sound like?

It's legal. In fact, it's Animal Control that does the
relocation.

Of course I'll check re. the nursing mother thing. But isn't
it a little too late for kits?

I have several litter boxes inside the house! I'd have to stop
and count to tell you how many! I'm thinking of just taking all
the cat food up at night, completely. The only reason I leave it
out is that my sleep schedule is very unscheduled. Sometimes I'll
go to bed very late and sleep all day the next day. I leave the
food out so the cats don't starve while I'm sleeping. But I may
have to change the rules: take all the food up at night and force
myself to get up at daybreak and put food out (once the raccoons
have gone to bed). That's the solution.

I'll leave some outside specifically for the racoon, if he gets to
it before the cats eat it, but none inside. Or maybe I'll buy him
something special, like deer corn. I'm pretty sure he'd like that.
I'll also put out any leftovers that I think he'd like, and that
aren't unhealthy for him. And some apples.

I know how you love racoons already, of course, but thanks for your
concern about my raccoon, and others.
