; the DMV has NEVER charged me a credit card fee. I've made use of both my credit card, and my debit card online and have never been charged a processing fee.

In Illinois, they do, for the reason Dena said.

Actually, Illinois just reads the codes from the computer too. Which again reminds me, I will have to get a few repairs made before it's due for testing next year. Just stupid sensors, but if the check engine light is on, you fail.

In Cali they plug it in, if it has been on and is in memory, you fail.

Good afternoon everyone... Talking about smog laws in CA, things have changed for diesel... "Electric cars, hybrids, and diesels never need to be smogged." The diesel part threw me; so, I closed my search, reopened the browser, searched again, and again came up with the above answer. I was primarily checking about hybrids; since I drive a 2009 Civic Hybrid.

As for fees; the DMV has NEVER charged me a credit card fee. I've made use of both my credit card, and my debit card online and have never been charged a processing fee.

Well if I could and so far I don't have the income, I'd get a used Turbo-Diesel VW Bug(New Beetle), I think that's a 2.0L 170hp engine and without a sunroof, plus hopefully without a black interior, or with tan seat covers if the seats were black, since black seats in the desert get really hot.
Like this 2010 model.

No history and it fails! Actually you will get told to drive it for at least 50 miles and around a dozen engine starts to put some history in it.

I had the GEO Metro with a bad oxygen sensor that was repaired and the codes cleared. I needed to put about 4 days of driving on it before it had enough history that it would pass the emissions test.

My car's odometer is mechanical thankfully.

Has nothing to do with the odometer, it's what is stored in the engine control computer.

perfectly legal here plus only bmw wants you to make believe it s a special tool ... its a jumper

caddilac mercedes etc have a similar feature which can be reset real quick in the onboard display

EDIT:
after a lil research i could not find any state law that makes it illegal to reset a service indicator in any state

So many cars here get tampered with here most cars that get done are leases to turn the milage back

it takes a laptop an interface and easily available software ....with that you can change anything you want in seconds and that is what they do here

unless you buy a brand new car you never know how many miles are on it

no codes no history

Today every engine start is logged, at least if you have a proper device to read the history. You are thinking of ODB I where only codes were stored. ODB II stores normal operation.

My Toothless had 64k on it when I changed out the whole instrument panel cluster for one with all the gauges and tach.
It now shows about 25k, cus I found a donor car that somebody crashed with only 18k showing.

This is not a crime, because it is going to be mine until either Toothless or I pass on, and nobody is being deceived.
DMV says..............it is an antique vehicle, being 25yo, so all bets are off on the title.
