Hello Friends and Welcome to the 22nd chapter of the ever-popular Critter Cafe. This is a place where Critter People come together to chat. All are welcome here and nothing is "off topic". To start off our new thread, and to further prove that ALL are welcome, here is a picture that Eric took in our backyard tonight. Little Stinks enjoys a lovely dinner of millet seeds. |

Nice pic Angela. Me it's just another bad two days, with more to come, My TV is shot, from what I've read and smelled, even after replacing a lamp with another lamp, the 57" TV is in need of a replacement, mp3s and online content at TWC, plus websites don't totally help. But until I can replace the tv, it's all I have, raising money for a 55in tv and a 4 yr warranty will take time to do, Mitsubishi is not making psus for these tv's anymore and I'd had this one for 9 years, repairs I read could cost almost as much as a newer set and only last 4-6 months and then I'd be back here, besides the only local place that would repair it, will not send anyone out to haul it to their shop and I don't have a way to get a bulky set there and back, so My tv set is done. Another size TV to consider is 47 inches. They have dropped way down in price and in a small room, they are big enough. I have a Vizio 47 inch that is been used for around 4 years and a 32 inch that is much older. The 32 inch is in the bedroom and I obtained it second hand or I wouldn't have a TV in the bedroom. It comes in handy on a sleepless night when I need something to turn my mind off. |

If you have access to Sam's Club or Costco, the 47" models are in the low 100's. Walmart is similar. I personally don't purchase "extended warranty" offers as I don't feel they are cost effective especially on flat panel TV's. I have a 10 year old Sony 47" that still works great and there are no tubes or projectors to go bad. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

What started off as a dream come true for one little raccoon quickly transformed into a nightmare when it got stuck in a dumpster. Luckily for the little guy, he was spotted by some people passing by, who lowered down a stick to help it out. YouTube Video Link (Just over a minute in length). |

Vic, do you really honestly need something as big as 55"? Would not a decent 42" do? As you know yourself, the price goes up exponentially above 40". Sounds like your set with a "lamp" is one of those projection type tv's? Go and have a look at a modern flat screen HD one, you might be surprised at the quality of a smaller set. Yes My dead TV is a 57" Mitsubishi WD-57731 tv, from the desk the tv is about 20' away, from My sofa the tv is about 8' away, I do have eyesight problems, 20/40 in one eye and 20/50 in the other, which makes blurry vision without prescription glasses, at least when I watch the TV I don't need to wear any glasses, which aren't exactly comfortable, one side is broken off, as result, I have too much to repair, this PC is one of the repairs, I recently repaired the kitchen faucet and the swamp cooler. I barely break even, but that is where I'm kept at, basic income from Government with no work requirements would fix a lot of problems for everyone, including Myself, but that will never happen, though in the 1970's it almost did in the USA, Nixon added a work requirement and Congress killed the bill. There is a Sharp LC-55LE653U 55" on Amazon for $597.00 with free delivery, That has a 5yr Warranty on offer from SquareTrade for $68.96, plus $52.76 in sales tax and regulatory fees, for a total of $649.76 and this is without a warranty, with a 5yr warranty that is $718.72.. I'd thought about rent to own, no thanks, $108.28 a month over 20 or so months is a deal breaker for Me, this was on the same Sharp model as above I might add. Then there is a 55" Vizio at TigerDirect for $649.99 which has a SquareTrade Warranty on offer for either 3yrs($79.99) or 4yrs($99.99) with $10.00 for shipping, which would be $659.99 and $739.98(3yrs) or $759.98(4yrs). I will never do business with Tiger Direct again, I caught them in a bait and switch false advertising scheme 2 years ago. And they double shipped a tablet keyboard after the order was canceled due to non-fulfillment. After returning the keyboard it took me 4 months and a threat of legal action to get my balance cleared. They are either the most incompetent mail order company in the world or intentionally deceitful. MY Opinion. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Raccoon Rescue - Aw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so refreshing for me to see videos of people who understand that raccoons are not vermin that need to be exterminated. |

I've never dealt with TD, always with Amazon or ebay or Performance PCs, TD I just put up, since I saw what they offered, a comparison, nothing more. Raccoons is a pest and still rare in Sweden, but now hunters in Småland caught a raccoon on the image. http://www.tv4play.se/program/utvalda-nyhetsklipp?video_id=2368557 But they are very cute and funny in the right environment:) They are called washing bears here. |

Vic, Buy a smaller TV that costs less and sit closer. We have to make sacrifices when we're poor. Seriously. Another option is looking for a used TV. My community has several Facebook pages where we can buy and sell used items. And there's always Craig's List. If your community doesn't have a buy/sell Facebook page, create one! ~Sue~ |

I had a very frightened visitor in my house last night. I went from the TV room into the dining room and found him like this. I watched an episode of NCIS and after it was over the raccoon was gone. I think he came in with another raccoon, probably his mom. When I went into the dining room she took off but he got scared and froze in place. (She didn't move too fast. I'm pretty sure she's one of my regulars. They "run" from me, but only casually!) This guy was smaller than most of the ones I've seen. This little guy was so cute and, I confess, I got way too close. I scratched his back with a mixing spoon and he seemed to like it. I talked to him to try to calm him down. I wanted him to relax enough to leave. But I'm not sure he knew how to get back outside on his own. I think mom came back and showed him the way out while I was watching NCIS. It was a great experience. Thank You God for showing him in and back out, and for not letting me get hurt. . . ~Sue~ |

Vic, Buy a smaller TV that costs less and sit closer. We have to I did find a TV for less, of course it needs a stand, has led problems on the top right, but for $174.75, plus $38.99 in gasoline for a full tank, since the TV is pickup only somewhere in Las Vegas NV.The stand is $53.90, the TV is a Samsung UN55D6050TFXZA. Sitting closer I can't move My PC nearer since the PC is on the Kitchen circuit, the front room electrical circuit is near full capacity now and moving My sofa closer would not help, and is frankly unrealistic, would you move yours closer? I doubt any would, you want to see whats on TV, not have you face pressed up against the screen and I sure don't think climbing over the sofa to get to the bathroom and/or the front door in a 13.5'(12'8" inside) wide mobile home is all that good of an idea. My community isn't online at all, Yermo is largely offline I think, I did find a used Samsung TV, I found one with a scratch on the screen, it's pickup too, in Los Angeles of course, for $598.41 w/9% tax, but that's it outside of cost for gasoline to go retrieve it, then there was the one from NY, more expensive still, like $618.20 total.. Of course I don't have the money for even the one shown below, outside of $10 that is. The lines going down the TV are from light leaking in from the blinds not being completely closed and the remote does come with the TV, just no stand, though that's an easy fix, just broken backlighting in the upper right corner. I think this problem is an inexpensive fix, I found a T-Con board on ebay for $34.95 total cost, which includes free shipping. I'd have to confirm if it's the same board as the one in the tv or not before I were to buy the board, but then this tv uses leds for backlighting the lcd panel, yeah I can do the work, if it's just a board swap, piece of cake, I fixed two monitors that had bad power supply boards. At worst some solder joints might be cracked where the LEDs get their power from, a TV repair place in Victorville could do that, I don't have a good enough iron or the eyesight, I need daylight and a flashlight to do detailed work.
