Are there any recommended settings for a computer dedicated to run on seti only? I have some computers that I can use only for seti (no other applications, of course with internet connection) and I would like to see those computers running and scoring better credits than similar ones with other applications running.

Hope someone can help on this issue...

I suggest to use the Lunatics installer.
Especially on CPU the optimzed apps are much faster.

I've tried the application on my oldest machine first (just to check) and it made miracles, crunching processing times greatly :). What is this application anyway? Now the applications have Local Host: in front of their names, and I have no idea how or why this came around...

Anyway... Is it safe for me to presume that this application will run on any machine no matter what other applications are also running along with it? When I posted my query I was ezpecting to receive some sort of configuration/settings/etc. tips for my machine(s)... I've gotten more of than what I want, and I don't know what the heck it is, but I LOVE IT, and I want more...

Thanks man...

The standard application from the SETI@home servers (also known as "stock" applications) are very generic by nature. The stock applications must be compatible with a wide range of CPUs with various features, and must be very stable and provide valid results in doing so.

The Lunatics application (also known as an "optimized" application) will use specific advanced features of modern CPUs to crunch data faster, such as SSE2 through SSE 4.1 or AVX. These advanced instruction sets offer ways to utilize functions in the CPU not found in the stock application (though many optimizations did make it back into the stock app for SSE). The Lunatics applications are very stable and provide valid results as well (they go through extensive testing), but can only run on CPUs with those specific features. The Lunatics installer takes most of the guesswork out of installing them, only leaving the user to have to know what their CPU supports.

The CPU part of the Installer has auto detection.
So long Murphys Law doesn`t hit you, all should be safe.

Just be aware that optimized applications producing more heat because the CPU is utilised much better.
So check your temperatures especially on laptops.

Apologies for kinda hijacking this thread, but are there any new optimized apps in the pipeline? An installer with newer AP7 codes would be helpful too.

The installer released a week ago has the latest available (fully tested and approved) AP apps.
