Is all this related to Matt's post about moving a server from Seti to Boinc? If so, might this present problems for the WOW event next week? |

Try reboot the offending computer. I imagine that will reestablish the internet link for your computer to download your 50 WUs. To my knowledge, Matt said nothing about moving a server from Seti to Boinc. What they did, as I understand it, was create and install a 64-bit version of Boinc, removing the old 32-bit version. The bloated "delete" queues have no effect on us crunchers. When Matt gets around to reorganizing the DB, the excess completed WUs will melt away. This problem has to do with the randomness of the insertions in the DB, which is why the DB is reorganized every Tuesday. |

Matt posted it on one of the other message boards, not on this one. Ageless posted a copy of it on the "boinc down" thread Here is the link on this message board http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=77863&postid=1708846 |

Swibby Bear's face is red. While I scour every post of Matt's (and most other posts), I clearly didn't see Matt's original of this information, and I guess I didn't take note of "Boinc Down" either. My apologies for the misinformation. Since I've been running Seti for many years on a few old, slow machines, I thought I knew more than I did. The Bear is going back into the den. Thank you for updating me. Peace, and may the weather everywhere be pleasant. |

No worries, Swibby Bear - questions answered help everyone. I (and most everyone else) have had my share of of "D'oh!" moments. Being polite and considerate is a wonderful thing, keep doing it. Member of the 20 Year Club |

You say you've got 50 SETI tasks on that computer, but none are running. A question - are tasks from other projects running on that computer? If so then it is a case of those other projects have much shorter deadlines than SETI, so will often run before SETI, eventually the SETI tasks will run... A couple of ideas... First, make sure that all your preferences (local, and on the website) are set to allow SETI to run (I doubt you would have got 50 WU if it weren't) Second, make sure SETI hasn't been suspended at your end (its a button that toggles between "suspend" and "resume" Third, suspend Einstein, and any other projects you have selected, this should force SETI to run. This should force SETI to run. One thing to remember is that the use share is a long term average, spread over weeks not minutes so if you have all your projects set at the same level it is quite probable that one will do a lot of processing for a week or two (or even more) before one of your other projects gets a chance to run. download of seti units hang on this machine I had to reboot one of my systems due to stuck downloads yesterday. Today all I and to do was exit & restart BOINC for them to download. One of the download servers is disabled & for some reason that computer wouldn't switch to the other server no matter how many times I hit Retry- it would just time out (almost) straight away & go in to project backoff land. To add to the disabled download server, Results Awaiting Deletion continue to climb to new heights. And the Seti@home database continues to receive an absolute hammering. Not only is it under 3 times it's usual load, but the peaks are reaching new levels as well. Now hitting 8.5k queries/s. Grant Darwin NT |

A couple of ideas... If I'm reading the reports correctly, there's no problem with the work being assigned, and there's no problem running the work after it arrives. But the problem is the step in the middle - literally downloading the data files needed to run. That is most probably a DNS problem - either a manual configuration so long ago that the user has forgotten about it, or an over-enthusiastic DNS cache, meaning that BOINC becomes fixated on the disabled server (vader), and doesn't switch to the working alternative (georgem) as it should. My DNS cache says C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig /displaydns Windows IP Configuration boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu ---------------------------------------- Record Name . . . . . : boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu Record Type . . . . . : 1 Time To Live . . . . : 230 Data Length . . . . . : 4 Section . . . . . . . : Answer A (Host) Record . . . : 208.68.240.13 Record Name . . . . . : boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu Record Type . . . . . : 1 Time To Live . . . . : 230 Data Length . . . . . : 4 Section . . . . . . . : Answer A (Host) Record . . . : 208.68.240.21 Georgem (working) is 208.68.240.21: Vader (not working) is 208.68.240.13 If BOINC's <http_debug> log flag shows repeated attempts to access 208.68.240.13, or any attempt at all to access any IP address apart from those two, you should investigate the reason why. |

(...) Shouldn't a simple ipconfig /flushdns do the trick? Eventually followed by ipconfig /registerdns Aloha, Uli |

my dns cache With an ancient IP address (208.68.240.18 went out of use several years ago), and Time To Live somewhat greater than SETI's servers set it at (maximum five minutes), my guess is that you (or some previous owner of the machine) have set custom values in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Remove them, or comment them out with a # sign at the beginning of the line. |

OK, who has stolen all the tapes - last time I looked, a couple of hours ago, there was a decent pile of tapes waiting to be split, now there are NONE :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

The SSP shows most aps are not running, is this an unplanned event and cause for panic? |
