So, my HD7870 (BrettPC)was having major issues with tasks, producing a very large amount of Validation inconclusive and invalid's. It was also having other issues and was running at 92-93C under load. It had other issues as well, for example when I plugged in a second monitor to the HDMI port, it crashed windows, and again when I unplugged it. So I decided to replace it. Installed an MSI HD R9-380, which ran great for 48 hours. Seemed about 25% faster than the HD7870. Today I get home from work to find a V7 7.07 (opencl_ati5_nocal) WU hung at 6.527% and running for a couple of hours (they usually take anywhere from 5-10 minutes). I suspended it and tried another, and another, and another........ I rolled the driver back from the latest AMD one to the one that is on the MSI website. Restarted and seemed to be ok. After a couple of three successes, same thing again. At the point of hanging (6.5275), I get a windows message saying driver has stopped working and then recovers (screen goes blank for a second.) The card is plugged into the same pciex16 slot as the 7870 was. SO, beginning to think maybe an MB issue? Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit. Any thoughts, ideas. Thanks, Brett |

I just mentioned having the same problem with V7 7.07 (opencl_ati5_xxx) to someone and they stated using cpu_lock may help. It is supposed to be on by default with the next Windows version 7.08. So, find the file named similar to mb_cmdline_7.07_OpenCL_ATi5_sah.txt in your setiathome.berkeley.edu folder and add the command to enable it. While you're at it, try adding the sbs option. Paste the following line into the mb_cmdline_7.07_OpenCL_ATi5_sah.txt file and save; -sbs 256 -cpu_lock There are other options that may help in the ReadMe file also located in the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder. To remove the commands just remove them from the mb_cmdline file. |
