Perhaps the Abortion Posts should be moved to a New Thread.

Back to Trump?

When they stop bringing it up in election debates, we can stop talking about it in threads about election debates.

You cannot morally reduce women to being nothing more than incubators

But they do and claim they are moral. As an interesting aside many of those people claim to be Republicans, the party of "small government", but don't acknowledge the logical disconnect about governing the bed room.

Women are chattel, so there is no fundamental difference between a uterus and an incubator for a chicken egg. At least that is what their God of Abraham has written down in their book, their highest moral authority. So they have done what you say isn't possible.

Change the word "morally" to "ethically" and you are correct. Which illuminates the issue with an external "moral" code. It is only correct if its author was correct; no human is correct all the time; ergo: any such code is "immoral."

OB: Trump the lawsuit. If I were Cruz, I'd tell the voters that Trump will spend his first 100 days in office being deposed and won't be able to do anything, heck his lawyer won't allow him to do anything lest it be seen as an admission in his lawsuit!

Looks to support what Gary says, certainly does not appear to contradict it. If women are chattel, then it matters not when life begins, the decision to abort is not one an incubator is qualified to make.

CLYDE's earlier objection to this idea, seconded by Darwin's Worm, "Not the foundation of Anti-Abortion beliefs, in the USA" doesn't really tell us anything other than CLYDE believes Es to be wrong, might be more useful to know why he believes Es to be wrong. I suspect the foundation for most US Anti-Abortion beliefs is religious and predominantly Christian (note, "most" and "predominantly", not "all" and "exclusively"), based on biblical doctrine. As your link shows, there's little in the bible about the value of a fetus (though there's a fair amount about women as property).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

If it is the same link I found before, when discussing this with someone else on another site, then it said little about women, more about the child. Some verses for and against, but primarily indicating the ancient Jews believed abortion could be ok and that an unborn child was officially human not until birth.

Did I give the wrong link?

I don't think so, the link you gave does go into detail on what the old testatment has to say about the value (or lack thereof) of the unborn, though it includes:

If men strive [fight] an hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit [fetus] depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

The punishment is "according to the woman's husband", why? Because it's his opinion that matters, not hers, and if you disagree, take a look at the link I added, which I think supports that view (and thus Gary's comments, etc).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

What worries me is that we may end up with a president who is on the lunatic fringe and will have access to pushing the red button.

The 'nuclear football' isn't always near The President- whoever he/she is- though, right? So we rely more on the person that presents The Button to the President to decide to go ahead and get it ready; even if Trump is 'more likely' to push the button, things have to be bad for it to even be an option.
