I was ALT, which still left a single invisible character to click on to get to my profile.

Guy is using the backspace character which can be entered through different encodings such as HTML hex and leaves no character to click on to get to his account or profile.

You can, of course, use his SETI ID # in a URL like this http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=7787259.

Lynn, I like that you post these things (usually with links) because I like other sources or someone finding out something before I do that I can go learn about. On the other hand, I rarely get a sense of what you think about the news you pass on to us ... ?

Trump, Carson receiving Secret Service protection

Donald Trump and Ben Carson are getting the Secret Service protection they were seeking.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that both candidates, who are leading the GOP presidential field in most national and state polls, have been assigned a security detail.

I'm an undecided voter at present.

LOL!!!

Roger Waters fears Hillary Clinton could be ‘first female President’ to drop a nuclear bomb

The outspoken Pink Floyd co-founder believes there is something “scarily hawkish” about the former Secretary of State, a politician he claims has a look of dishonesty about her.

Must say I agree on the above quote.

+10 I have never been comfortable with some of the looks Hillary has been caught on camera displaying.

The terrorist attacks in Paris had a different outcome if civilians had been carrying weapons. It says Donald Trump, who is leading the fight over who should become the Republican candidate in the US presidential election.

- If you look at Paris's toughest gun laws in the world, none have weapons except the bad guys, said Trump at a campaign rally in Texas, after an initial moment of silence for the victims.

The 69-year-old real estate magnate, has admitted that he himself sometimes carry firearms to defend themselves.

AD:
- You can say what you want, but if people had weapons, they had been allowed to carry weapons, so it would have been a completely different situation.

Trump also claimed that American cities like Chicago, with more restrictive gun laws, as a result, are harder hit by violent crime.

I don't think that Donald understand that trying to use weapons against terrorists means you are dead!!!!

DEAD... Either way.

Better to 'Go Down' fighting. Than to cower in fear, awaiting your death.

Why this 'Surrender to your Murder'?

Please explain.

@ Clyde: True. +infinity.

@ Everyone:

Ok, I do NOT like Trump as a presidential candidate. I find him to be quite abrasive in his personality. But, even a total jack@$$ speaks the truth from time to time.

Trump's statement:
Trump also claimed that American cities like Chicago, with more restrictive gun laws, as a result, are harder hit by violent crime.

has a lot of truth to it.

I think that everyone can acknowledge that there is a rather strong correlation between city size and murder rate.

Texas has a rather lax attitude towards 'gun control'. Open Carry goes into effect in Jan. 1st.

Texas has 3 of the 10 largest cities in the USA. Texas has 6 of the top 20 largest cities in the USA.

#4. Houston.
#7. San Antonio.
#9. Dallas.
#11. Austin.
#16. Fort Worth.
#19. El Paso.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population

Texas cities' position on the list of murder rates per 100,000 people?

Houston is #24 with a rate of 10.9 per 100,000 people.
Dallas is #28 with a rate of 9.1 per 100,000 people.

Gun control cities? Two with very strong gun control laws are

Chicago at #19 with a rate of 15.1 per 100,000 people, and
Washington D.C. at #17 with a rate of 15.9 per 100,000 people.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate_%282014%29
(do a descending sort on the murder and non-negligent manslaughter column).

In a former 'murder capital of the USA', Detroit at #2 with a rate of 43.5 per 100,000 people and rather restrictive gun control laws, the police chief said:

“Criminals are getting the message that good Detroiters are armed and will use that weapon,” Chief Craig, who has been an open advocate for private gun ownership, told The Detroit News in an interview. “I don’t want to take away from the good work our investigators are doing, but I think part of the drop in crime, and robberies in particular, is because criminals are thinking twice that citizens could be armed.

“I can’t say what specific percentage is caused by this, but there’s no question in my mind it has had an effect,” he added.

In addition to the drop in robberies, Detroit has seen 22 percent fewer break-ins of businesses and homes and 30 percent fewer carjackings in 2014 than during the same period last year.

So, yes. Trump's claim has quite a bit of supporting evidence.

I dont think anyone are afraid of a terror attack.
No one has "surrended" so far.
The chance is so minimal to be affected when comparing to other risks.
For instance road related fatalities are about 1.2 million per year!

When will the US understand that your gun policy doesn't work?

@MajorKong You give stats from different states in the US.
Please compare those stats with all other countries on this planet.

This is possibly why the gun laws don't work in those cities.

It is much too easy to get them in other states where gun laws are very low.

NYT - How Gun Traffickers Get Around State Gun Laws

You only need look at the map, but it comes here much too large so haven't linked the map.

About 50,000 guns are found to be diverted to criminals across state lines every year, federal data shows, and many more are likely to cross state lines undetected.

In New York and New Jersey, which have some of the strictest laws in the country, more than two-thirds of guns tied to criminal activity were traced to out-of-state purchases in 2014. Many were brought in via the so-called Iron Pipeline, made up of Interstate 95 and its tributary highways, from Southern states with weaker gun laws, like Virginia, Georgia and Florida.

A handgun used in the killing of two Brooklyn officers last year was traced to a pawnshop just south of Atlanta. A revolver used in a fatal shooting of an officer in Queens in May was traced to a roadside pawnshop, also in Georgia, about 100 miles from Atlanta. And a handgun used to kill an officer in East Harlem last month was traced to South Carolina.

OK...

Let's forget Paris, Beirut, Russian Airliner.

Just sit back 'and enjoy the show'?

I even remember the suicide bomber in Stockholm a few years ago.
Guns wouldn't help me if I had one.
Donald think otherwise.
Beaumont, Texas (CNN)Donald Trump said Saturday that the terrorist attacks in Paris "would've been a much different situation" if the city had looser gun laws.

"When you look at Paris -- you know the toughest gun laws in the world, Paris -- nobody had guns but the bad guys. Nobody had guns. Nobody," Trump said at a rally here. "They were just shooting them one by one and then they (security forces) broke in and had a big shootout and ultimately killed the terrorists."

"You can say what you want, but if they had guns, if our people had guns, if they were allowed to carry --" Trump said, pausing as the crowd erupted into raucous applause, "-- it would've been a much, much different situation."

janne...

Perhaps we are living in a different Culture.

I believe in 'Going Down' Fighting against my Murderer's.

Not Cowering in fear. Awaiting my death.

Different Culture?
Well Then dont vote for the Donald.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/trump-mocks-warrens-native-american-heritage-claim-but-false#.gr53NARY7

Trump statements.

"- I love Muslims. We could say that there are no problems with Muslims. There is no problem. There is nothing at all. They destroyed not the World Trade Center. As far as I know, did not fly people who attacked the World Trade Center back to Sweden"

"IS is not available in Sweden"
The statement came after an election rally where a Trump supporter said that "the problem in the United States are Muslims" and stated that President Obama is a Muslim.

In his autobiography, "The Art of the Deal" Trump claimed that his grandfather immigrated to the US from Sweden. According to the population register was the grandfather however, German.
According to writer Henry Hurt, Donald Trump was bluffing for not making Jews who lived in his estate upset.

BTW I'm not cowering in fear of terrorists even the fact living in a muslim area.
I fear a lot of other things

Not planning to vote for 'The Donald'. I have described him as "dangerous" previously.

Re: Fighting against Great Odds.

Been there. Done that. Still here.

Re: Defending against Attackers, who are armed with explosives and automatic weapons, with only a 'handgun'.

Been there. Done that (45ACP). Still here.

We have a police force and an army trained to deal with voilence.

Oh btw.
