is there some secrets to getting so many tasks or is it just luck of the draw. I only have one machine

The more completed work that you return the better your chance of snagging them is all that I can say. ;-)

[edit] BTW, 32 have now landed here so far today. :-)

Cheers.

i managed to have some AP setting preferences and big cache setting without MB with one location and switching on it to catch some AP tasks,

when server dry out, i switch on another profile with AP + MB settings with lower cache to keep the rig cunching tasks :D

you have to manage update location between boinc 5mn server backoff to avoid some server misundestanding and having to much MB cache behavior ...
( that's some Seti server secrets tricks to know to made it working like a charm ... )

Back when we used to get AstroPluse tasks all the time I would play with settings. Now I just let them load if they are there, no babysitting the computers anymore. What helps is of course having a computer which is sending back completed tasks and then asking for new ones. There is a much better chance to pick one, or more, up that way.
(BTW 63 so far today)

I fill my cache with MBs and any APs available, then immediately switch back to APs only. This seems to snag a few more than just letting a combination of work be in the que.

I've been busy lately and hadn't switched on the combination setting for a few days so I only received 9 APs in the last two days. Now back to checking every eight hours for cache level as there appears to be APs available again(probably for a short time).

I am amazed I actually have 16 tasks in total one for all my cores at once. With only 59 channels remaining I think we will be out of work by the morning New Zealand time. I am guessing in 12 hours or under
