Need some feedback please. I considered myself extremely computer literate from years of computer geekdom until I tried messing with Linux Distros this last week or so. I was ready to jump off a bridge at one point of frustration. Then I find and alternative, Linspire/Lindows 4.5 Problem is, as good as it seems to be, the "click and run (CNR)" ability seems to be a handicap also. While they have a few thousand available programs, all linux based, they are all set up to install using this one click CNR. Anyone used this OS? Can I install the Boinc/Linux client on it? In the CNR warehouse (file repository) they have a seti@home client and a GUI program or two. But they appear to be for "classic" seti. If you have used this OS before, how difficult is installing software that does not come from CNR? To give you a background on how hard I had it installing the optimized 4.13 under FC3_x86_64, it took me about 4 hours to figure it out, I finally figured out how to put the right commands in some terminal window and let it run for like 9 hours at 100% CPU load on my FX-55, no results were uploaded. This is most definately because I did not begin to comprehend the command line/script/jargon/blah blah blah within Linux. I'm linux challenged, I admit it. Any input is much appreciated, Thanks, Alex |

Regards Hans P.S: You might want to check your client's output files (client_state.xml, sched_request.xml, etc...) for error messages and post any errors to this thread. |
