With the server being down, I decided to uninstall and reinstall to the latest version of BOINC and Lunatics. When I downloaded Lunatics v0.43a, my Norton Security flagged it as malware. I downloaded it anyway and then had VirusTotal scan it through 57 separate antivirus/malware engines and 3 of 57 have flagged it as malware: Norton, McAfee and Ikarus (never heard of this one). Norton and McAfee are both pretty reliable.

I was wondering if anyone else had problems installing this version of Lunatics. Thanks for your help in advance. If anyone has installed this successfully with no problem, maybe you could contact Norton and McAfee about this, since it will have been a false positive.

As long as you download it from either Lunatics website or Mikes' World, you should be fine.

Many of the AV programs use a special definition to look for viruses (other know more about this than me) but that same definition is a program that allow programmers to compress data for installation. (double duh!!)

So they will flag it as a virus, when in reality it isn't.

I use the lunatics installer on all my machines with no problem

Thanks Zalster, that's what I think as well. I'm just waiting for my jobs to finish before updating the software.

I put in a request to Symantec to look at the problem. It seems to be more of a reputation thing, rather than defining it as malware, at Symantec, because so few of their users have downloaded this version of Lunatics.

I got a reply from Symantec that they confirmed that this detection was a false-positive and within 24 hours their definitions will be updated to reflect that.
