The temp now is 101F, the high was 109F, glad I didn't need to go out into that, I'm getting an early start in the morning, I'm hoping to get to the store around 6am, but that means going to bed around 10am tonight, oh well.

20% chance of rain just woke Me up and became 100%, lots of thunder and lightning before I got out here, forcing Me to fix the internet connection and to restart My PC, We'd had a brown out here. Temp is 80F outside, inside 76F.

Chris - post how you get on with the evaporative air con unit - I could do with something here, my "office is sitting at over 40C and I'm "sweating my nodes off"...

Evaporative cooling or swamp cooling, is usually best in dry areas, far from bodies of water, like seas or oceans, today is a terrible day for the swamp cooler here, why? Humidity outside is 46% currently, add another 10-20% on top of that to try and cool the air down and you think it's humid now, just wait. I'm waiting until the humidity is under 20% before I turn the cooler on.

...Coo, I'm waiting for the day when the humidity here drops below 30%
Which is why I asked Chris how his one performs, knowing he is in a part of the UK that is a little hotter and has a similar humidity profile to here.

(On the other hand I might just bite the bullet and get a split pack system and blast hot air at the neighbors)

It made the news here that you're having a heat wave over there in Europe/Britain.

We're getting enough smoke here to be something of an overcast. Not produced locally, though. It's blowing all the way here from 900+ fires in Alaska.

Supposed to get a little bit warmer each of the next few days. 80 on Saturday, 83 on Sunday. I can live with that at IRM.

not only Wimblegone but Silverstoned as well, bound to be a bad weather weekend. Oh, there's also a clickit match between Essex-Gurls and some crowd from down under.

That all at once and Thor may well be in action

Hi Rob,

Cooler arrived and set up. It was an AC100R from Appliances direct at £79.97. I see today that they seemed to have cashed in on the heat wave and it's now £99.97. I would look around for an alternative if I was buying today. In terms of value for money, its about what you would expect for the price. It comes with two ice packs to add to the water.

13.00pm
Humidity in 48%
Temp in 87F

14.00pm
Humidity in 59%
Temp in 82F

18.30pm
Humidity in 65%
Temp in 83F

Temperature always rises late afternoon. The recommended humidity for humans is 60%, any less than that people get dry throats and sore eyes.

Here the temp inside is 82F and the humidity is 72%, the cooler is on high cool, while outside the temp is 93F, and the humidity is now 24% and falling.

Hmm, let's see, my room, with all the doors and windows open is sitting at 31C (88F) - no surprise my nodes are sweating....
Outside temperature is only 16C (61F)...

The back of my envelope suggest I need between three and four kW of cooling to keep these beasts in order...

Then you need a refrigerated cooler Rob, and they start at 1KW/hour power consumption. I have one at another premises but I can't afford to run it 24/7, Maybe a business can. What I have is just for a slightly better comfort factor in a room with no comps!

What gets me is all the bars on Bourbon St. in New Orleans that have all their doors wide open and the cold air pouring out into the street. Feels good, though.

Last rain here was Monday night.

Next rain will be Monday night.

This after the wettest June on record in the state of Illinois.
