Like cpu sales, in some cases foreign, that are at odd hours, odd enough to make an i7 3820 cost about $176 w/free shipping and motherboards that fit said cpu for $200. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

An old neighbour of mine, who was an auditing accountant for a local government tax office, told me that they ranked potential investigations in terms of the ratio of possible government income to possible government expense. They started at the top of the list, and never made it to the bottom. I expect this is why, at least in this locale, most e-Bay sales, garage sales, etc. don't get investigated. And yes, I was also surprised at a government agency being so logical. |

They have to justify their budgets. When I practiced tax law I made them work so hard that they often gave in. You should see an auditors face when you walk in with 4 boxes of documents. I really loved it one year when asked if I had written records to justify my travel expenses and I pulled out a 4 inch thick folder with receipts and records. He didn't even look at it. He just said, I see you do. |

They picked the holding company for a compliance audit, owned everything from multiple cattle ranches to dozens of oil wells. Obviously that was done on site. Fun part was in the middle of it, IRS misapplied an employment tax deposit on one of the cattle ranches and seized a bank account all because a number wasn't readable on the back of the check. Their on site auditor could see the screw up, but still couldn't get the funds released for a couple weeks! |

Yes of course I have bought some bargains on Ebay, I can't deny it, but my original beef was the time that they take up in queues at post offices. Yes you can weigh your own parcels and print out your own postage at home, but a lot of Ebay sales go recorded delivery or signed for, and that has to be an over the counter transaction. I refer you to my earlier post, what do you do afterward? I would be in favour, at post offices with multiple windows, of having one 'express' counter; for people who need one thing, know what that one thing is, and have correct change in hand. That way i don't get stuck behind a ninety year old pensioner hunting through her hand bag, to find her glasses, to find her purse, to find her other pair of glasses, to find the bit of paper where she's written down what she came in for in the first place. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

I you ask me it's more young people, not old pensioners, who HAVE to talk in the phone when served. Grrr... |

But as she likely lives on her own, that visit was probably the highlight of her day. It's all swings and roundabouts. But I still say Damn Ebayers! Tax 'em and sod 'em!! There's tax included in the sales fee as a seller. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

But as she likely lives on her own, that visit was probably the highlight of her day. It's all swings and roundabouts. But I still say Damn Ebayers! Tax 'em and sod 'em!! That is an option here in the States. I don't see small guys doing that, but larger commercial operations often do. |
