From Sartre I prefer 'L' Enfer c'est les autres' - hell is other people.

I'd never 'accuse' somebody of being what he is.
I have lately made excellent progress in remaining sane by accepting people as they are (this includes the person being an absolute prick at times).

What kind of thread is this anyway? oh, nothing off topic. Phew. thanks.

Love that book!

I just use the term 'accuse' in an ironical sense of way, no offense meant in any way.

The problem with me is that I see, feel and hear too much for my own good, makes me angry at times. I only judge people's acts, NEVER the person him or herself! (no one made him or herself anyway, the parents and God are responsible for that)

Such as "J’accuse" and Émile Zola?

If everybody would just stick to the Beer thread or the Story game, everything would be ok. :~)

That sounds pretty good to me. However its still 8:40 in the morning here, and at the very least I should wait until the sun is over the yard-arm.

In summer in the north Atlantic, where the phrase seems to have originated, this would have been at about 11am. This was by custom and rule for the time of the first rum issue of the day to officers and men (the officers had their tots neat, the men’s diluted). It seems that officers in sailing ships adopted a custom, even when on shore, of waiting until this time before taking their first alcoholic drink of the day.

I normally make it 12 noon unless exceptional circumstances dictate otherwise.

My beer o'clock normally starts around 6pm unless I have to work until 7pm or 8pm, like today.

Talking about words, once said, cannot be unsaid. One of the reasons I sometimes prefer communicating by email or BBS/Forum message is that I CAN edit myself before I hit "Send". Many's the time I've typed a particularly nasty response to someone, paused, reread the message, and then edited, or even deleted it, rather than send it out into the aether. But every once in a while, something so rubs me the wrong way that I don't stop to review, or even spell-check, the nasty response, and as good as it felt to "SEND" that barbed missive, it only made things worse. And I, too, often have difficulty admitting I am wrong, or have hurt someone I care about with a poorly-chosen word or phrase.

We are imperfect beings, we humans, and prone to error. But we also find ways to apologize when we are wrong, and to forgive those who have hurt us.

So on that positive note, the Infernal Optimist is going to go kibble some kitties, then pop over to the pub for a pint and a bit of lunch.

Well Donald, I regularly polish my specs, because you can't be optimistic with misty optics!

Sorry ...

Indeed. I carry two sets of spectacles, since they get dusty and scratched up at work. Have them polished in March, after I get done with Cotton season.

Yes, it is most difficult to see the positive side of things when you cannot see anything clearly....

Tapto is a military signal that means the return to barracks or bivouac for the night. It can be used with the hunting horn, the signal trumpet or drum. Originally, it meant that beer serving ended by putting the pin in the beer barrel. In Dutch called "tap toe" and English "tap to". Hence the word, that through the Low German "Plattdüütsch" came into Swedish during the Thirty Years War. In German it is called Großer Zapfenstreich.

I'm just having a problem with ebay, I'm seeing a www.qa.ebay.com, instead of the usual www.ebay.com, I get rid of the .qa and things work again, I did a search of My PC with malwarebytes and saw nothing, this happens in Waterfox and in Opera. I'm on hold with ebay customer service, their message is that ebay is having some problems and sometimes I get redirected to a TWC page for My trouble when I try to click on a link on ebay.

This is confirmed, ebay is having some sort of problem and they are aware of it and working on the problem I was told, maybe in 3-5 hours this will be fixed.

I definitely need a large beer now!!!

I've just seen the latest edition of the UK TV show the Chase. One of the questions was

"In Street Talk what does 'Mad Props' mean?

One reasonable guess was outrageous clothes. D'ya know what it was?

Used when someone does something that is appreciated or respected. It as an alternative to thank you. "mad" = extreme; "props" = support (in a congratulatory sense).

As if we haven't got enough trouble with white English schoolgirls who think its "cool" to talk Caribbean Rap crossed with pidgin English, we now have this rubbish. Cockney rhyming slang was quite sophisticated looking back. I shall enquire forthwith about emigrating to the Isle of Wight.

Mark, I know it's Friday, but you are not helping. Lets gloss over it and move on please.

I am working tomorrow, so not drinking heavily.

Gloss it over, eh?

I suppose some have tried to do the same for me.

But, as Zappy poked at me often, I suppose the goose fit the gander.

Many poked at me whilst I was down.

Actually, very few did. Others just tried to tell you to chill out and you, in your state, perceived it as poking.

I never poked at you or peeked either Mark, I know first hand what someone is like when they are drunk, in My Mom's case, either mean or out cold, I'd rather stay away..
