See the status of the servers. The scheduler is currently offline for database updates.

same here. Server Status says scheduler is running, but 3 systems (on 2 different connections) claim no scheduler responding.

The scheduler is what *sends* you the WU's; that is offline... even though the status page says it is working and the news page on the main page says *nothing* etc... it is not working.

Wouldn't it be nice if these folks learned how to communicate? We should maybe practice that to get ready for contact?

IOW, the uploads work. The downloads do not work. The communication from the folks at Berkeley is broke. The status page does not work. Get it?

After any extended outage there will be a period of time when everything is overloaded due to everyone trying to connect to upload results and download new workunits.

tioat, what special inside information do you have that the scheduler is down?

I, along with some others, have just managed to upload some results and also download a few. It is not without problems but is due to the overload.

Don't be so quick to badmouth the people at Berkeley.

You upload results to a different server, but afterwards you "report" them to the Scheduling-server, so the scheduling-server is up and running but is probably swamped with requests... especially if someone is constantly hitting "retry" and don't let the BOINC-client do it's exponential backoff as it's programmed to do to not flood the server.

Go fuck yourself. I was pointing out that "they" should communicate with the users of this system. There are quite a few ways they can do this. This message board would be a good place. Did you see any status report from them? No? No one else did either. They could use the main page news section. Did you see anything there? No? No one else did either. There are at least two usenet newsgroups. Did you see anything there? No? No one else did either.

Have a nice day. ;)

personally i rather them spend the time fixing it.....if that means they don't have a chance to tell us whats going on, thats fine
i rather less downtime, not informed downtime

and also note: you can speak civilized and still get you're point across...

It would take a minute or two for a little word from them about what the problem is.

I think the prayer meetings are in that other forum.

They did have a news report on January 3 saying servers will be down for 1 hour for database updates.
After about 6 hours they remove the 1 hour message but still had the message being down for database updates.
When they were back up and running they removed the news meessage from Jan. 3, 2005.
The scheduler is swamped with requests.

Thank you RichardG,

i just love how someone that has been around for one whole week has the gall to say what should and should not be done.
try lurking for a while until you figure out how things work.

as the old saying goes, "better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
