I once argued and won a case over the meaning of "the".
Statute read "The prevailing party shall be entitled to...." I argued that "The" means one. There can be only one! We had won 90% of everything we asked for. The other side claimed that they had one 10% therefore they were entitled to 10% of their legal costs. I argued against that and won.
