OK,

Other than the obvious ones, what are some interesting places in London?

The best pint of IPA I have had was in a pub in Westminster...

So much to see, so what sort of things do you want to do?

Waterbus out to Greenwich
Open top bus tour of London
Theaters, too many to list
China Town
The zoo
A canal trip

....and loads more

(and they play two sorts of football - the stuff with a round ball, and the stuff with an odd shaped ball, but no body armour)

Do they play football in London?

HEHEHE:)
But with their feets and with a ROUND ball hence the name.
However icehockey .... maybe:)
But that was a LONG time ago.

Svennis som är en Svenne.

First time I was in London all the building fasads where dark grey.
10 years after they where shining Bright:)

One year ago I started a Quiz about London.

Which football team is the best?
1 Arsenal FC
2 The Gunners
3 The team that play in Highbury London.
4 The team where Fredrik Ljungberg from Sweden used to play in.

The prize will be a link to an image of your favorite beer.

Still waiting for answers:)

I heard that there used to be a problem
at football matches with Canadian tourists
in London ending up falling all over the
ground dying of laughter....

I know you asked for off the beaten track recommendations, but if I may put in a plug for one obvious thing, you really should see the Elgin Marbles in the British Museum... (before the British Museum is finally shamed into returning them to Greece)

Actually Angela, that does sounds interesting. As does Mike's suggestion. Will depend on how much free time I have. But I know I can squeeze in the Museum. Thanks.

I agree but Greece was lucky that the Elgin Marbles is now preserved.
Limestone together with "acid" rain has already destroyed lots of the Parthenon.

Yes. I understand the complexities of both sides of this controversy.

As a youth in Nova Scotia, we played a kind
of Gallic football, that looked a lot like
a cross between Rugby, and Aussie football.
We called it smear. It was very rough,
and it was absolutely not allowed by
any adult, in school or at home. It was great
fun, and hardly any one died playing it!

The main sources of modern football codes appear to lie in western Europe, especially England.
But:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football#Ancient_games
Episkyros is recognised as an early form of football by FIFA

Right in the heart of London are a few nice places to visit if one has the time & interested in those particular places.

While working for the London Evening News & then the Daily Mail(Northcliffe House) in the early 70's, I used to wander around This area

Much has changed in the area since then but the Temple area is still good especially as Fleet Street is not that far away as well as St Pauls & various other interesting spots in that area.

If just on a walkabout, practically that whole immediate area could be covered within 90 minutes or so with some nice pubs & restaurants should one wish to partake of food & drink :-)

Why only the heart of London?
I have stayed in both Eeling and Hounslow:)
And why not go to Brighton in the summer?
