I keep getting the message "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel." when trying to install Boinc 7.4.42. I have tried using CCleaner, Windows uninstaller and nothing seems to work. The normal uninstall of boinc I did before seemed to have worked but I guess it left something behind. I have searched around here a bit and can't find anything to help. Any tips/thoughts? TIA. |

First try to download the installer anew, saving it to a different location/drive than the last time. |

Well, you didn't say that. I read around that this could be due to a corruption problem in the registry. You may want to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley Then if the problem continues, delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley as well. You may want to back them up before you delete them. Right-click the key->Export->give a name and save. Do know, deleting the HKLM key will delete the installer's 'knowledge' of where your data directory is. If you changed it, you'll have to change it again, as else BOINC starts up clean from C:\Programdata\BOINC\ |

Anything else you did that you didn't say? Why not tell everything you already tried, so we don't have to second guess? |

Anything else you did that you didn't say? I have tried everything I can think of short of reinstalling Windows. I have also read some of the stuff others have posted and tried that and it didn't work. I said I have searched around here. |

OK, lets go back to the beginning ... is this one of your computers listed? Did you have BOINC on the computer and reinstalled for some reason? If so why? Just updating versions? Did you have any problems before? |

Go to this link and use this uninstaller. http://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-program-uninstaller.html If there's any remnants of BOINC left on your machine, it will remove it. |

OK, lets go back to the beginning ... is this one of your computers listed? Yes, "Sol" is the computer I am talking about. I uninstalled it because I didn't want it installed anymore. (the reason doesn't really matter to the problem) |

We can't see your names for your computers - if you can tell us what the SETI computer number of the computer is Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

We can't see your names for your computers - if you can tell us what the SETI computer number of the computer is That wouldn't help either as the processor and motherboard have all changed from the computer it was installed on. It is currently Windows 7 64 bit with all the updates. The computer is an i7 4790K at 4.5G with 32G ram, a GTX 680, 500G SSD with a 1TB HDD, Asus motherboard (Z97 Deluxe), and the drive that Boinc was installed in was the old motherboards onboard SSD which is not in this motherboard. |

Putting the error message from the opening post, "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel.", into Google produces a list of weird and wonderful errors from all sorts of applications. The common factor seems to be that they all use Microsoft Installer (MSI) technology, and they all seem to end up with corrupt data in the registry in the local machine. The first hit in the list I get, labelled "[RESOLVED]", suggests using Microsoft's 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility', and removing all entries referring to the product in question (obviously BOINC in this case), and also all blank entries. The original Cleanup Utility (MSICUU2.exe) has been withdrawn with the demise of Windows XP, but the download page https://support2.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301 offers 'The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter' in its place, and third-party sites may still host the original version. |

This uninstaller actually worked! That is like the 3rd I have tried. It couldn't find Boinc but I just had it remove 3 "unnamed" programs and that worked. Thanks for the help everyone! |
