Longtime Packers reporter, publicist Lee Remmel dies

He covered Curly Lambeau and Vince Lombardi's Packers. He publicized Mike Holmgren and Mike McCarthy's teams.

Lee Remmel has passed away after 90 years, 62 of them connected to the team he grew up watching.

He wrote for the Green Bay Press-Gazette from 1945-74. Then, the Packers hired him as the team's PR director.

During the 2000's, he moved into the role of team historian.

“He had a tremendous love for the organization, a tremendous love,” former Packers president Bob Harlan told Packers.com.

“Everyone had great respect for his ability as a writer, and certainly if you wanted a quick point in history, there was not a better source than Lee."

“The Packers lost a cherished family member today,” said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy in a news release.

“Lee was a key member of the organization for many years and his knowledge of Packers history was unparalleled. He was a great ambassador and through his public relations work, he helped multiple generations of Packers fans learn more about the team. We extend our sincerest condolences to his family.”

Remmel was chosen the 1967 Wisconsin Sportswriter of the Year.
