Yuppers, kinda had a _wee_ bit of a RAC falloff, was just wondering what the scoop was. Hopefully you'll be back with a vengeance crunching here on SETI in the not too distant future!

Thanks to J. Mileski, My laptop, which I think I renamed "Solaria", has "Windows 10 Home" on it, talk about a strange OS, in about an 1:14(h:m) it should be charged, if I don't move the laptop, I have a 90w psu on the way, I just tried to cancel that 90w psu, I'll see what the seller on Amazon say, since the 90w psu has not shipped yet. And no, the OS was already there, I'm just used to Windows 7 Pro, weird. Also the way the laptop works is weird to Me, I'm used to a mouse, I think I might order a wireless mouse today, and Mileski PM Me, you need to see an Amazon link that I can share. And thanks Mileski.

Ok I ordered 2 wireless USB mouses for the laptop, one in Black, and one in Black and Blue...

Plus I ordered a 3" deep curtain rod for My bedroom drapes.

I ordered the above stuff from here, in case some want to look around or something:

The TP-Link AC1750 router is up and running, I had to use different DNS numbers than stock, but otherwise the router is running just fine, and is a very good upgrade, IPv4 and IPv6 are both online.

My next water cooled card, an Nvidia GTX970, though only 1 fan is needed for this card, I bought 2 Noctua NF-F12 3,000rpm fans, 1 is for a different GTX970 card, also pictured is a Corsair HG10 N980 adapter, still to be bought a cpu water cooler that is compatible with the HG10 N980, like an NZXT X31 or X41 cpu cooler for example. For the moment I'll use the card as is, to test out the EVGA P55 FTW PC, then the Asus RIVBE motherboard, and finally the Asus RIVE motherboard. The other GTX970 is a Palit 970 that is coming from the UK, that might get here by at least Friday, maybe earlier.

Now Vic, over the years you have spent at least as much on parts as I have, but other than some pic's of new and old stuff what have you got to show for it all?

A fortnight ago I got given back an old C2D E6300 (1.86GHz) rig that I built 10.5yrs ago, I swapped out the 9800GT for 1 of my GTX 550Ti's and in that time it has passed the RAC of that i7-4820K with GTX 580 rig of yours.

So what are you doing and if you get all that kit together are you going to be able to afford the power bills to support it all?

Cheers.

Well the 970 is going to replace the 580 card, it's an upgrade, and the 970 uses only 170w vs 300w for the 580. You have to remember, and I don't know if you've read My about Me post here(Profile), but I'm not exactly able bodied anymore, if you have, please forgive Me, it's hard to keep track of those who know, and those who don't.

As to how much output, I have the PC doing seti only on video right now, and only for 7 hours a night, it's not that I couldn't run more, it's the fact that the a/c unit here is only 10,000 BTU, it gets very hot here in the desert, last month a for few days the temp was at or near 115F. To go higher than 10,000 BTU, I'd need a 220vac circuit and a bigger a/c unit, not to mention a double hung window in the kitchen and in the rear bathroom. I would like to relocate to Big Bear CA(see pic below), but so far that is not possible, not without a much larger deposit, like 81%, a Bill in the State Legislature for Low and Very Low Income people like Myself might do just that, but I have to wait and see what happens.

This place is for sale for $156,000.00, 81% down is $126,360.00, even with My current credit score I would be approved, the only problem is the cost of moving and utility deposits. As long as I was allowed to pay the property taxes monthly or even to reduce the taxes like I did here under Prop8, I could make it. I'm going to get rid of a few things from the front bedroom, that have been there unused for nearly 10yrs, then I'll be able to sell off the 125 gallon aquarium and its supplies, the house pictured is just being used as an example and the land under it, is tied to the mobile home title.

It's not that I don't do anything, but I have been having some medical problems, like the prostate gland slowing the flow from the kidneys to the bladder, I'm in recovery, which from June 28th was expected to take 6-8 weeks. While I was under the Hospital found I did not have any Prostate Cancer, it just hurts when I go to the bathroom.

I did get the EVGA P55 FTW PC to a state of completion to where when a video card is added, I could start it up, I'll be doing that soon with the Palit 970, since I don't want to convert that card right away, I have 3 motherboards to test, which does include the P55 FTW, and does not include the 1 motherboard that needs its cpu socket fixed.

Also here's My new TP-Link AC1750 Router, I waited until July 10th to install this, since until the 10th there was no point in doing so. I did have to alter the DNS settings to ones I know work, since the ones included don't work here, they'd just time out. So I do get tasks done, just not as fast as some would like, it just takes Me physically longer to get some tasks done, some things are easy, easy gets done quick.

I also got a Black and Blue wireless USB mouse in for the Windows 10 laptop, but since the laptop only has 2 USB ports, I need to get a usb hub, since I'll be plugging in 3 usb devices at first, a mouse, an 802.11AC 5GHz TP-Link network adapter(I have a few), and a thumb drive with some text files. The USB to wireless interface is currently in the Mouse, the batteries are on top of the included booklet, yeah the batteries are White with Black and Yellow text, oops! Since My income is limited, this takes time, I have to smog My car in August(which might be $40-$60), and then in September pay the DMV the $98.00 they want for the car registration. And I'm thinking about getting a stronger floor fan, this black fan is one weak fan, even on full power.

Well I was retired medically unfit 16yrs ago due to spinal damage (yes I'm a pensioner) which means that my legs don't always want to do what I want them to do and I have to put up with the pain that it causes, but my priorities are,
1/ the kids (1 still at home, 2 at uni and the rest can now fend for themselves)
2/ the house and shed
3/ dog
4/ the bills
5/ the car
6/ myself

My PC's come somewhere after that depending on what else is going on and with no depending on any credit cards, but I do like to see immediate results from my hardware purchases.

Cheers.

Mine are a bit different.

1/ the bills
2/ the house
3/ the car
4/ myself
5/ cat
6/ no kids

Though the car, the house and Me are interchangeable. And I've never been married or had any kids.

My 2nd 970 card arrived intact today, soon I get to test it and the Nvidia 970, hopefully before I go to the Doctor on the 26th for a followup to the surgery that I had on June 27th.

I was told today by My sister in law, she's a retired RN, that until the end of August I'm not to do any heavy lifting, cause of the surgery that was done in Me. Though installing a card, or ram, or a psu is not heavy lifting, though lately I've been doing a lot of napping. Stealing 40 winks. I even slept on the sofa, though only in the recliner, asap I've got to get a sofa bed, but $1,150.00 @ Living Spaces, wow! And that's only a full size, My living room is not too wide, so full is as big as it can handle.

I like the looks and size of this one, it's a Full, not a Queen, though I don't like Foam, or rather My body doesn't.

This one is better, at $548.00 from Ashley, and it's also full size, plus no foam, polyester instead.

I was thinking of a sofa bed, cause of My weight, about 440, though I have lost some weight, I just put scales the 4 nimh batteries in the charger, and the fact is the living room is the only part of the house that is really cooled by a/c. Grace, My cat, likes it warm, she's laying next to My chair on the floor.

Ugh, foam...

Palit 970 card in a Corsair Air 540 case, EVGA FTW motherboard, cpu Xeon X3480 3.06GHz(equal to an i7 880 cpu), 95w power usage.

Cause of the passage of time, I also had to vacuum inside part of the case for dust. But the card is in there.

Thanks Zalster, I think a longer card would not fit, at least not with what I have in there, asap, connect a keyboard, mouse, and a monitor, and see what happens when I power it up.

And for the moment I can't buy anymore cards, maybe a case, and a cpu in a few months with paypal credit, since I have a few repairs to do to My car and house, plus taxes on the house to pay for.

Have you tried taking off the front grill and moving the fans outside the case and connecting the fans to radiator thru the case mounting? I've never tried it with that big of a radiator but I've done it with the radiators of the GPU hybrids.

Here is the front with the grill off. They are on the left side of the pic

Here is a pic from inside the case. I had to move the wires for the fans thru the opening in the case and reconnect them , took some effort but it allows more space in the case for me. If it's too labor intensive I understand. I don't want you hurting yourself.

By my doing so in my case, it increased the space between the card and radiator. 3 fingers breath.

No, though I do have the 2 grills off, short cards aren't a problem, I'd just need 2 more Palit or PNY 970 cards, since there are only 2 more slots on the motherboard, but that is some where down the line. I wanted to run the case w/the grills on, but then I don't want to have to tell My cat Grace NO all the time She got near the fans.

I still need to put the Nvidia 970 card in this case, and eventually buy a book on how to use Windows 10, I can move the cursor, but that is all outside of rename the laptop, which I've done already.

My other thread Vic's Journal mentions things like the weight I lost, etc.

I decided to mount this here, temporarily, though I could change My mind later, I know it doesn't match, but I also discovered that the pcie slot in between both cards is useless for a 3rd video card. Why?

Cause there is a cable sticking up, and being video cards take up 2 slots these days, a one slot GTX 970 video card is not likely to be in there, I'd be able to stick an older GTX 580 video card there, but I'd rather not.
