The water that I found was at the rear of the top 16/8 pcie slot, I proceeded to dry the slot with a paper towel wrapped around a thin knife blade until there was no more water on the fingers of my video card, which meant a lot of insertions and retractions, that slot looks dry now, I looked at the other slots and they appear to be dry too.

Next I need to find some thermal compound for the cpu, after that I should be ready to start the PC up.

I also made sure the 3 fans are plugged into the motherboard, as are all the other needed cables, I also removed the 2nd hdd, dusted, and moved 1 stick of ram to a different slot.

But first a nap, My battery needs a charge (no not the phone), I'm a bit sleepy.

Ok I tried booting the asus rive, I'm getting no where fast.

I get an error code of first 10, 14, b0, b1, then b5, then nothing else, I did hear the cpu fans run at full speed once.

3 leds are on bios Orange, Red (next to psu cable), Green(across from pcie switch 4 on 2nd bios only).

Fans are spinning, but that is all, I think the EVGA X79 DARK will be going in on Friday the 17th.

And to top it off I can't get the power and reset switches on the case to do anything, probably cause 2 case cables are messed up and I dont know which way they are supposed to be at or in which position.

I would suggest sticking with simple ready-builts with air cooling, and running them as is.

Nahhh... That would be too easy :-)

Vic - that sounds as if there is still some moisture stuck somewhere.
Lay the motherboard component side down. Leave it for a day and then replace the pad (or use a different area of the towel). Repeat this for four or five days before trying to reinstall and re-boot the computer. It would be wise to do the same with the RAM ad GPU, plus any other cards that go into the system.
At the same time loosely wrap all the connector ends in toweling and follow the same regime.

This technique has dried out many boards over the years.

I'd do that, but Grace is jumper, so there is no place I could do that at.

Grace Is staying near Me, I must be a warm guy then, the thermometer says it's 74F in here.

So since I can't do what you suggest, I will just have to do a motherboard swap, since I am confident the DHMO was confined to a small area, since pics l took indicate it was dripping for a bit. I did find a good amount down lower on an air filter.

The only places Grace can't jump to are also places I can't reach without a working step ladder, Mine is broken, and is not strong enough to support Me, one that would is on My list, but that's almost $186.00.

I managed to unhook the pc from the external cables, and get the EVGA X79 DARK out, I noted that the Cooler Master 240L pump was at times making noise on startup, which I'm told is normal, so it could be the motherboard is having a problem that asus could probably fix, but the warranty is long gone, so I may sell the ASUS RIVE x79 motherboard and the i7 3820 cpu, as is.

Alphacool has yet to respond, but they seem to be in Germany, so maybe next week I'll try again.

I just got off the phone with Azzatek customer support, the 9000 has two 4 pin cables, the problem is Azzatek can't identify them, they aren't power related, and they aren't usb 2.0 either or usb 3.0 for that matter, I guess I'm on My own on that.

Ok I installed the EVGA x79 DARK in the case, plus all the cables, I had to get a fan power Y adapter and an extension cable out, but everything inside is connected, I had to look up the front panel connectors since I had no idea what went where, the ac97 input I put on an unlabled 10 pin connector(1 pin is unused).

For the moment I am worn out.

I managed to move this steel behemoth from the kitchen counter to My desk, I don't know if the Internal usb 2.0 ports are hooked up right or not, on the motherboard end the connector is standard, on the other end the connection is not standard at all, in which case I could have those connectors on wrong and not know it until I tried to use a usb port on the front of the case.

Right now My shoulders are hurting, and yes I took some pills. Just in case someone asks.

Id say it would be too. My wife bought me a HP Intel I7 -6700 for $500. 00 Even with out a GPU its gets 1100 RAC.
Ive lost track on much Vic has spent buying junk and trying to get it to work. I'm betting he could have bought a few good rigs all ready to go.

I had a good rig, until a cpu watercooler that I bought new sprung a leak. The cooler was bought from Performance PCs in Florida, but they have a return policy limit, and I am beyond that.

The motherboard in my case is from EVGA, I know it works, its an rma from EVGA directly, so I wouldn't call it used, like new, yes, but not used.

Thanks Zalster, I won't, I only have external cables to attach and find the x79 Classified motherboard driver disc, which I should have, somewhere.

Ok I connected all the external cables, and I got a b0 error and the green leds under the video card are all flashing, so the video card is probably toast, since some water did touch the card.

I do have one or two other known working video cards, but one needs four 6-32 screws to screw a fan on to its radiator, this card at one time was bought new by Me.

Plus this card uses two fans since the radiator is about 0.5" thick, and so I need a 4 pin Y adapter too, so I'm at a stand still, the only other card that I have needs heatsinks for the ram and the vrms on the card, otherwise I have no usable video cards right now, and I can't buy one, that would take more time than I have.

It doesn't help that I found this EVGA X79 Dark is bowed a bit near the usb ports on the back, but it's an rma from EVGA, so please don't flame Me, which some of you do to Me, if I buy new I get flamed, and if I don't I get flamed, if someone wants to flame Me, go post elsewhere, since I will not tolerate that here.

Also I could not find a drivers CD for an evga x79 motherboard, and that is here and online.

When I tested this motherboard I had a 3820 cpu installed, now the board has a 4820k, the bios is the latest, and is ivy bridge compatible, the 4820k is an ivy bridge cpu, the 3820 is sandy bridge.

This b0 error might be ram related(I read that on an EVGA forum pertaining to the X79 Dark), since the two sticks that are in there are Corsair vengeance ram(1866MHz), what I had in there when testing was not the Corsair ram, but My old standby, G.Skill Ripjaws X ddr3-1333 ram, I'll swap the ram first, with 1 stick of 4GB G.skill ram. Since a video card swap is not currently doable. The ram is fully seated.

Of course this might mean goodbye, I know what to do, but I might be at an impasse, maybe the ram swap will do the trick, if not, My Battleship is sunk.

Edit:

Ok it was the stupid ram, everthing works! Yay!

The i7-4820k cpu is running at 56C at the moment, now 57C-59C, vrm is at 44C, the cpu seems to have settled at 65-69C.

Naturally I had to set to set BCLK ratio and setting to x 1.25(1.00 is normal) and to 140 MHz(100MHz is normal), also I set the cpu multiplier to manual, and the cpu setting to 27 to get 3780MHz(3700MHz is normal), vcore is floating at 1.204 v.

Oh and on Monday, My nephew is getting married again, He's a fast worker alright.

Ok now when I try to boot, the OS won't load.

I get the improper device and reboot, the drive, I tried ide mode, and ahci, both went nowhere fast.

Cpu temp is now at 54-55C.

And My DVD drive wasn't plugged in to power, fixed that, now I am rebooting after an attempted repair, I might need help from MS on this.

Ah crap, if says custom will erase everything, I hope I can do upgrade, but I will see. Upgrade only works if the OS will boot, crap.

Windos OS CD says after repair not a valid partition, repaired, not.

I may need to install the OS again. :(

On another hdd, thankfully I have another hdd that is empty, it just needs to be mounted on an adapter and shoved home.

But I need to clean some dishes and cook breakfast(brunch really).

Ok I got win 7 Pro x64 on the formerly blank 500GB 2.5" hdd, I am copying files, then I need to find the other files that are outside of the downloads folder, then activate, I have the correct ethernet driver loaded thanks to win7, the two top front usb2.0 ports aren't working, cables up on top must be backwards, sigh...

Now I should install some drivers, later.

Greetings Zoom314

Sorry to hear about the water cooling hiccup but glad to hear you are on track to getting up and running again.

Thankyou for your thread. I have found it very informative on what to do and what not.

I would say some of us around here do thing the hard way cause we want to know if it can be done. It's human nature.

Keep it up and crunch away
