I knew that Microsoft was going to the dogs when a tech YT'er said he had been let go from the quality control division as M$ decided they didn't need a QC division anymore. They would just let the Window user become their alpha tester. That really provided the impetus to 'Just Say No' to M$ products for me.

Whoa!!!

Keith, I think I know who you're talking about. Is he kinda heavyset and does a lot of... what would you call it? Educational videos? Is this his channel: Barnacules Nerdgasm?

I've watched a lot of his videos.

Have a great day! :)

Yes, Jerry at Barnacules Nerdgasm. A guy that actually knows how the OS works inside and out. Always informative. Provides lots of internal information about M$ Has shown how dysfunctional they are. His best advice was to just stay away from anything new at Microsoft. The only M$ OS he will endorse is Windows7.

That's what Mercedes Benz has been doing for many years.......AND they ALSO charge through the nose to fix their bugs..........I passionately avoid M$ and MB.

Hi Keith,

And to think, as I was re-building this PC, I decided to go with Window$ 10 instead of sticking with Win 7. :(

I really thought that Windows 10 was much better. It takes care of temp files and such by itself. I've seen where Win 7 drives were maxed out because of temp files building up and users not deleting them. Oh well... ;)

It seems like Micro$oft is scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to software engineers and the like. I always knew that Micro$oft was more interested in how much money they can extort from Window$ users, rather than putting out a "quality product". ;)

Tag line changed...

Have a great day! :)

Hi Zoom,

Yeah, as Keith mentioned about Micro$oft firing Jerry after 15 years, who pretty much built there QC division, that in all appearances got rid of QC at Micro$oft. So, now we are the alpha and beta testers for Micro$oft and it doesn't look like they are listening at all, or just don't give a doo doo about their products anymore. They just want more and more and more money and screw the consumers using their crappy products. You're correct, we're in permanent beta test mode, fer sure. :(

Have a great day! :)

... ... All are listed as 'critical' risks...

Really! How many 'bug' fixes are needed?! On-going? Forever??

Who would believe it?!...

If at first or second you don't succeed [try it on again...], you may be Microsoft: Hold off installing re-released Windows Oct Update

Six weeks after first release of build 1809, and Redmond still can't get it right...

... Buried among the release notes for the re-released build is this little advisory, in which it admits: ...

... We can imagine that being a little annoying for people working in work environments...

... Microsoft says it'll sort out the issues "in the 2019 timeframe." That stunning Redmond Q&A at work again, we guess...

... All in all, try it out before you deploy it on [any] system you rely on.

Well, well, well... Fancy that?!...

Has Windows finally fallen into the mire of unmaintainability? (Too many side-effects and too much conflicting shoddiness such that fixing one part then breaks many other parts?)

And yet another unwanted 'side effect' or few...

The Windows 10 October 2018 Update Also Broke iCloud

... After issues with deleting data, now it seems the update also broke iCloud...

... But this is just the latest example of something with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update going wrong, ... at this point it seems wiser not to install the update just yet...

After how many weeks? Can you believe it!?

I have decided to give up on my W10 box. It is an I5 w a GTX1060. The mouse keeps getting broken after updates. I am only doing security updates. In the past I have been able to get it back, now it seems to be determined to stay away.
I would like to replace the HD w a HD from a retired W7 OS. The box it comes from is a E5400 CPU w a GT430.
Is this doable and what caveats should I be aware of?
Thanx in advance for any help.

My local computer source "reconditioned" my Win 7 Pro SP-1 x64 HD from Original Prometheus, (Intel QX9650 @ 3GHz on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P MOBO), to run on New Prometheus. (Intel i7 7700K on a Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3 MOBO.) I don't know exactly what software they used to do the reconditioning, (something from Paragon, I think), and afterwards I had to "Reactivate" Win 7 Pro. Once done, and Win 7 realized what hardware it was now running on, (being "too new for Win 7 to 'supposedly' run on"), Windows Update "broke" itself and REFUSES to get ANY new Updates EXCEPT for Windows Defender.

STILL, I was able to install MOBO related Software and Updates, including a "3TB+"-Drive Software Piece that will allow Win 7 to recognize HDs and SSDs above 2TB. Even though Windows Update is now "blocked", all seems to be running as it should.

[EDIT:]

Also, had to install the Gigabyte MOBO USB-3 Driver for Win 7. Win 7 does NOT natively recognize USB-3.

That will probably be me eventually, as I replace the guts of my primary computer with Rizon comaptible ones and keep the same OS.

Groundhog Day comes early as Intel Display Drivers give Windows 10 the silent treatment

What's that? You've installed 1809? No, sorry, can't hear you

What new 'reality' is this?!...

Is this a timely reminder of that unmaintainable fragility?...

New era for Japan, familiar problems: Microsoft withdraws crash-tastic patches

Stop us if you've heard this one, but Microsoft has pulled a couple of buggy patches in Office. It also left a crash-worthy Outlook security fix in place.

The two non-security patches were part of this month's Patch Tuesday, both for Office 2010. The patches in question were supposed to support Japan's upcoming [epoch] turnover. ...

... Rather than withdraw the patch, Redmond said it's researching the problem – a hint, perhaps, at the seriousness of the vulnerability...

Is this a sign that the Microsoft fix for that old "Y2K" hiccup was a quick-fix patch that is all too easily unraveled?... Or even more seriously, does this highlight a fatally flawed system design that simple just cannot cope with the real world?...

Hi Tullio,

I saw a Windows 10 v1809 install on a YT video this morning. The first thing to pop up was Edge and how Micro$oft boasts that it is faster than Firefox and Chrome. I Googled it and there is no evidence to support Micro$ofts over bloated claims. Edge is nothing more that an IE revamp. New package, same crap, ok maybe a re-write. The reason for their over bloated claims is due to the fact that Edge is not getting the widespread adoption that Micro$oft expected.

Bottom line: stick with Firefox or Chrome.

Have a great day! :)

Waterfox v56.2.5 (64bit) here.

Yep, actually just another Firefox. I tried one about a year or so ago. Can't remember the name but it was done with Mozilla's open source code just like Waterfox. Wasn't pleased with it or Waterfox and stayed with Firefox. To each their own though. :) I think the name had Ice in it. Memory is so far gone these days. I'm surprised I can remember my name, Rasmussen... No, that's not it. What the heck IS my name...? ;)

Have a great day, Zoom! :)
