After the last patch update Windows 10 does not recognize my EVO lector which I used to read my health card provided by the National Health Service. It cannot find the driver. All the rest seems to be Ok. Tullio |

Ahhhhhhh, the joys of M$. My tablet has not yet succumbed and it's the only device i own running 10. Both 8.1 and 7 seem stable after the latest round. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Regarding Windows 10 Creators Fall Update I just luv the new "controlled folder access" in Windows Defender. To quote "Apps determined by Microsoft as friendly are always allowed". So why if I turn controlled folder access on is Internet Explorer blocked from updating its config settings? |

So why if I turn controlled folder access on is Internet Explorer blocked from updating its config settings? Probably because they're pushing for people to use Edge. And because web sites and browsers are one of the main infection vectors attackers use by getting people to click on things they shouldn't. Grant Darwin NT |

I thought Internet Exploder went away with 10? Thank GOD, it's still hanging around as Win 10 will install both (backward compatability). I use PC Matic as my anit-virus software and when I go to their website I can't use some of the tools using Edge, so IE 11 comes in very handy. I also have a problem with my HP 6968 Officejet Pro printer not being able to print interent pages, so I use IE for that also. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

I have divorced myself from as many M$ apps as possible. I prefer Open Office, Firefox and other software over anything the girls and boys in Redmond offer. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Amazed here at how much better FF 57 is over previous FF 56, and any version FF beats M$ browsers. As for Open Office, it's ok, though Calc is pretty weak and clunky compared to Excel for power users. Half the stuff I used to do on Excel either can't be done or take twice the effort on Calc. Talking specifically about the setup and formatting tools, and their ease of use. |

My only M$ software is the OS: Win7 Pro 64bit. That's only because it's a pain in the you-know-what to try to get Windoze programs to run in Wine on Linux. I swear by Firefox. Started using it when it first came out and haven't looked back. Oh, I have tried others: Opera, Chrome (hate it with a passion), that browser put out by Apple (cannot remember it's name), and when I tried Win10 I tried Edge. Back to Win7 and Firefox I went. Agree, FF latest is a vast improvement in speed and a world above Exploder. My desktops both run Window$ 8.1 with little problem except 'Mail', what a useless P.O.S. I have to log into Outlook to save or send images and half the time I get a "XXX@msn is currently unavailable" when I'm just dumping my junk mail. I also have email through Gmail and Xfinity but each have other problems. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

And the latest and greatest 'Creator$ Update' has rendered the stylus on my $urface Tablet inoperative in Firefox. Probably another wrench thrown into the workings of Mozilla by the boy$ and girl$ in Redmond..... ALL HAIL MICRO$OFT! "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

And the latest and greatest 'Creator$ Update' has rendered the stylus on my $urface Tablet inoperative in Firefox. Hey JE, Don't you know? Micro$oft can do as they damn well please since they are answerable to no one. Contrary to them putting out security updates, they don't care about us little people. They are above ALL on this ball of rock called Earth. Window$ 10 and their revised EULA, taking away our freedom to use Class Actions, did that for them. Is this something long and old that is newly coming into prominence? Why this special article just now?... How To Fix The 'Page Fault In Nonpaged Area' Error In Windows 10 The Windows 10 error "Page Fault In Nonpaged Area" usually results in a BSOD and can be quite frustrating to troubleshoot. The error is caused by Windows not finding a file within memory that it expects to find. If you need to fix this error, well, this is how to do it... IT is what we allow it to be... Windows 10: Now you can see every bit of data Microsoft harvests from your PC The Windows Diagnostic Data Viewer was made available yesterday to those testing early builds of Windows 10 under the Windows Insider program. |

Windows 10: Now you can see every bit of data Microsoft harvests from your PC That is also detailed by The Register: Microsoft whips out tool so you can measure Windows 10's data-slurping creepiness Diagnostic Data Viewer gives users a peek into what Redmond gathers from your PC... For the normal form for The Register, that article is rather subdued... All far too obvious to need risking their legal budget/insurance? Instead, the comments there are somewhat illuminating as is too often the case... IT really is what we allow it to be... Windows 10: Now you can see every bit of data Microsoft harvests from your PC Tom's Hardware has picked up on the story also: Microsoft Introduces New Privacy Tools For Windows Insiders ... Microsoft has already been threatened by Data Protection Authorities in the EU in regards to how it collects data on users in Windows 10. With the much stricter General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) going into effect later this spring, we’re starting to see many companies, large and small, offer users more control over the data that is collected on them as a way to become compliant with the new data protection regulation. Note: Those user-friendly regulations do not include the rest of the world such as the great "US of A"... IT really is what we allow it to be... Ah, but when Kaspersky sends back information about the version of AV that's installed on your system, it's bad, and everyone needs to know how bad it is, and that it's Russian - purportedly Kremlin run - and that you should not ever install it again on any of your systems. When Microsoft does it, it's "let's install this on all our computers in the Pentagon!". |

When Microsoft does it, it's "let's install this on all our computers in the Pentagon!". Which is why I would NEVER let Kaspersky within a thousand yards of my equipment. I know, McAfee, Norton and probably every other AV program(and most Apps), also 'report back' to their masters, but those masters are not former heads of the KGB.............. I've just renewed my license with them. They're better than frickin' Bitdefender which stills keeps asking me to reboot once, twice a week, else it can't update. 20 more days before it's going off and Kaspersky is going onto that system as well. As for the CEO of Kaspersky having graduated from The Technical Faculty of the KGB Higher School and then served the Soviet military intelligence service as a software engineer, that's how schooling with follow-up work was done in the USSR before the Wall came down. I doubt you'll find anyone there of our age that wasn't taught in some intelligence school and didn't serve in the navy, air force or military. I'm sure that if the Wall hadn't come down, it was still going on like that. But leave it to the Americans to be scared by absolutely nothing at all, and only because it's a Russian product, it's outlawed. Next stuff from China will be bad. Followed by anyone or anything coming from Europe. |

The difference is that any backdoors in US products are there for the US intellgence services, where as the ones in Chinese & Russian products are for their intelligence services. Grant Darwin NT |
