Eric and I used to laugh about the "cortical stimulators", but then one day I passed by a physical therapy charting area at work and somebody had an article there about cortical stimulators. I don't think they served the same resuscitative function that they did in the show, but P.T.'s apparently do something with "cortical stimulators". How cool is that???!!! |

In the original series they attempted to have medical devices that we might have in a few years. How quickly we forgot what medicine was like 40 years ago. They had something called exploratory surgery where they didn't have a clue what was wrong with you so they cut you open to find out. Now with MRIs and CAT scans combined with some powerful blood test they know exactly what they are going to do to you before they ever pick up a knife. |

Of course not everyone can have an MRI, some have metal objects in them, from shrapnel wounds or from surgery, like My 3 titanium screws in My left calf, which it's feared that there could be some impurities in these types of screws, like nickel or iron or some other ferrous metal. Bones's sick bay in star trek had couches where they could work out what was wrong with you. The doctor in Voyager had a hand held device to do the same thing. We now have Cat scans and MRI almost very close to it. The Doctor's name on Star Trek Voyager was Joe, and the device he used was a medical tricorder ;) (I seriously should start a Star Trek Voyager trivia thread, lol.) And it was far superior to Cat scans/MRI's, hehehe. *high-fives Chris* All in good fun, my friend :) |

Wonder if the replicator could make ear grey, hot. Could it be used to solve our drought? Replicate water. Or even better transport water from the ocean to a lake, without the fish or salt. |

There are limits even on a star ship. Star ships use good old fashion plumbing and waste processing/storage according to the technical manual. The space yard assembles space ships instead of replicating them. We know they grow grapes for wine and some foods instead of replicating them. Could it be because the custom touches that a replicator is unable to reproduce or the replicator can't provide a true duplicate. Granted on a star ship it would be better to store raw material for the replicator so the decision of what to make can be made at the time of need instead of attempting to stock a star ship with everything one might want. Still on the other hand the replicator is the ultimate fast food because you can order just about any meal you want and have it in seconds. Try that the next time you eat out. |

Replicators and Transporters could do or not do exactly what the plot line called for. Remember the tribles got into the replicators! |

I think the Star trek replicator was something like a 3D printer where they could scan an object, or have a blueprint of it, and reproduce it. And they had a memory to reproduce previous scans. But they transported the water along with the Whales. And that was with a Kingon transporter. I am sure ours would could do more. |

The Grapes are for real alcohol. Most if not all replicators serve synthahol. No getting stonkered on "Star Fleet" vessels. |

Bones often had alcoholic beverages stashed around that he shared with Kirk. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

At Ten-Forward, she kept a selection of alcoholic beverages for special occasions in opposition to Starfleet's synthehol regulations and made herself available to anyone in need, especially the senior staff, as an informal counselor. |

It would be a cure for cancer. Just beam out all the cancer cells. I remember a Larry Niven novel using that technique many years ago. They could set a transporter for this mode. You stood in one transporter, they hit the button, and a cloud of dust appeared in another transporter next to you. Cured cancer, aging, and all sorts of other stuff as I recall. |

It would be a cure for cancer. Just beam out all the cancer cells. Now that would be great, to finally defeat the worst disease of Mankind, DEATH.. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

It would be a cure for cancer. Just beam out all the cancer cells. On a light side now, death is like getting from one car into another, also valid for Spaceflight. rOZZ Music Pictures |

It would be a cure for cancer. Just beam out all the cancer cells. They'd be Spacenoids for sure, of course We'd have to develop a spaceship that could go to the stars and sustain life, so far that part of the equation is not within our physical grasp.
