I am not sure what qualifications there are for moderators, so you will have to explain what that would look like.

That's my question, are the names drawn out of a hat? How did you become a moderator. This may be basic knowledge to those long in the project, but how do newer motivated members of the community become involved? That would seem to be a possibly overlooked resource.

One way is for a Fred to ask you ....

Another way might to volunteer and see if a Fred likes you ....

We Do NOT All, Like Each Other.

I just don't understand why this is or how it could happen. I don't know what causes one cruncher to not like another. Is their computer producing too many errors, or in another way causing a negative impact for the Project? Is it something they said in the forums, perhaps disagreeing with the views of another in a negative way in the form of a personal attack like I said in my earlier post? What is/are the causes for the dislike of another cruncher?

We are NOT All in 'This' Together.

I might not understand this either. I have always felt that we're all part of the same Project and that because of that there's a sort of comradery amongst all of us crunchers.

This is pretty much it. Fred has a view of what he/she thinks moderation should look like and chooses people who have shown that they can fit into that ethos.

Politics Reflect Life.

We are NOT All in 'This' Together.

We Do NOT All, Like Each Other.

'Crunching' S E T I at Home, Work or In A Parallel Universe does NOT make us, United In Spirit.

I Like Seeing People Lose Control. Why? Because People Lose Control.

The One Poster stating All These 'Rules' To Post By, 'is' Not Politics.

Politics in US of A, UK, EU, and Anywhere Else, runs Under The Sham of Rules and Procedures and 'is' Anything But.

So, Let's Get a Stick About.

Huh?

Why, that doesn't make you an enjoyable person.. Guess we need guys like that too.. :)

I vote NO !!
I quire enjoy this forum and its contributors, whether I'm lurking or contributing.

So it doesn't always follow Roberts Rules and some of the contributors have "alternate" view points. That's its attraction.

The world would be a very dull place indeed if we were all the same grey sludge !!

Since Chris wanted us to vote.
I say NO. Micro Power Muppets
I happen to met them now and then. Micro Power Muppets.
And it is all too easy to fall into the same self scheming, where silence creates more silence. Where love greed is contagious.
But the fact is that it only allows me to an equally tiny human being like them.
My message, perhaps above all to myself, is simple.
Refuse Micro Power Muppets into your life.
And refuse to become one yourself.
Skip the silence. Answer. Give. And give. And give some more.
It makes you a great man, dignified and proud.
And if you do not get anything back, if the response does not occur, go your way.
The loss is not yours. It's theirs.

NO, it's the ignore button that keeps that anarchist under control.

And It should result in that ignored person disappearing from the world view entirely. That is the real problem here, not the politics forum.

It should, but it doesn't. Indeed, it is a coding flaw pointed out years ago.
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

There is no losing end here Clyde, everyone is free to express their views. I have simply called into question it's validity. Some people here quite clearly want it to continue for their own personal agendas and reasons. I don't care if the politics forum goes or stays, makes no odds to me, one way or the other. But it is interesting to see who those are in the group who are advocating it staying.

Nah I leave bad hair to the Beckham types.

And what pray tell is my agenda? I have no dog in this fight at all. I state my opion and either get spanked for it,Or have some others agree with it. I dont keep a score card if I win or lose. Id say off hand Ive gotten spanked a whole lot more. So what. Ive actually learned more by getting spanked.
So because I believe this forum should stay open. I now have an agenda?

Edit- Fred also looks at a persons posting history. Im not sure but a consistant posting pattern is what he looks for. A new poster will never be asked to be a MOD. Plus he likes a mixed team of differant views. Thats the gist I got when I was a Mod anyway.
And anybody that volunteers to be a Mod is crazy:) Buts its the best expierance Ive ever had.

This thread needs a time out because there are some people who insist on discussing specific moderator actions in it.

I would like to remind people that if they have a complaint about a post to use the Red X.

If they have a complaint about a moderator decision they can email the moderators at seti_moderators@ssl.berkeley.edu.

I would also like to take this moment to say that even the moderators have the right to post without being insulted and we are perfectly within our rights to remove posts that insult us and/or that are derailing or hijacking a thread.
