Hello Do you remember me posting about keeping seti running while I was away on holiday?I asked about connections and downloading seti etc.I left my pc thinkinhg it would automatically connect each time seti wanted it to.It was working fine when I left it.I just got back from a 9 day hol to find on the 26th it all went pear shaped. The dial up box was on the screen and it said"cannot connect" and this was on the 26th ;-(( I had not changed the settings to keep trying to dial up if it failed..What a muppet I am.I have now changed the retry dial up to 10 times. Happy New Year everyone. ......In Space No One Can Hear You Scream...... |

> > Happy New Year everyone. > Hello Rachel, And Happy New Year to you too! I have had similar situations here as well. I toke off to Europe for a couple of weeks and after checking all my connections and so on I thought I felt comfortable as well. When I came back I realized that my connection failed and I had a lot of WU’s that had expired. Not only that, I brought my laptop for some work and of course this one crashed (not just once but twice) and a lot of WU’s went down the drain - again. Happy crunching |

I went away for vacation and when I came back I discovered that one of my crunchers had been hung by one of the projects because it could not start the screensaver graphics. BOINC WIKI |

Luckily the 12 wu's that were finished were due back today so just in time but my pc lost the potential of 7 days crunching, about 2500 coblestones worth ;-((( ......In Space No One Can Hear You Scream...... |

I remmeber u saying that. It would seem that u figured out the problem as well. That is good for future travelers. It would be nice to put your message in the FAQ for others. While you where gone. it seems that we inhereited moderators. perhaps they may move your experience over to the FAQ. I have not yet learned who the mods are, what they are able to do, how one qualify for a mod, how often they on, when they on, and what they restricting. I just came back from an outof town PC repair. I found all my PCs but 1 turned off. Of then 2 would not power up( im still down 4 PCs due to power fluctuations here). We have fixed 2 PCs.I hate my new home simply due to power flux/disterbances and the insueing destruction on my PCs. I was only gone 1 day I hate to come home and find a cruncher not crunching. But... Welcome back rachel. how was the trip? While u where gone. I've got the BoTD year end vote site up to be publiched sunday nite. Do U want in? Timmy have been doing some excelent avator help. And I think they have nudged him into calander photo builder. hatred for the usual is still the same! So is comfort those returning. Welcome back. |

You may be able to charge the power company for the damage as they are unable to condition the lines to not damage your property (and it's not like you can choose a different comapny, usually) I would also suggest investing in some APC battery back-ups, they have saved me numerous headaches and $ in power supplies. your profile says only US, but Sam's Club has very good prices on APC and Fry's has a large selection at decent prices too. good luck and happy crunching!
