Best exchange regarding this Thread:

President Merkin Muffley: You're talking about mass murder, General, not war!

General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.[/i]

First, I admit I haven't read every post in this thread. But I did read about the possibility that the Russian leadership might be entertaining thoughts of retaking Alaska and how it compares to other Russian actions in recent history. To me, the biggest difference here is how long Alaska has been part of the United States and the fact that it's citizens voted to become a state. There will always be a few dissenters here and there that claim to want to secede from the union and will cry loudly that they are just a few of the many who want to do so. They will also claim that they are being mistreated by their current government. I seem to recall from my history books that a certain deluded leader in Europe used people like this and added more to justify annexing a portion of a neighboring state into his own control. I hope, on one hand that President Putin doesn't really think he can justify an invasion of Alaska, but on the other hand I think it is likely that if he does he will use such a pretense to set things in motion.

I also dont read every post in a thread. It's impossible.
Retaking old territories are Putins goal.
Putin are cherry picking from history but deny all bad things:)
Russia has been doing this since 862 AD (no typo).

About Alaska and the US purchase.
Well Putin will probably say that was a mistake and they want historical justice.
Exactly what Putin are doing now to Crimea and Donbass.

Why are Putin interested in Alaska?
I Think you know the answer.
Oops It's not Sarah Palin. Or?
Vova Putin calls Sarah Palin to chat about her prediction that he'd invade Ukraine.

You guys are REALLY paranoid.

You don't understand history, well, it's a widespread phenomenon for the USA citizen. If the USA in 19th and 20th centuries had the common borders not with the Mexica and Canada but with the Germany, Turkey and Japan... LOL. US citizens would have very other mentality.

Thank god for that! Perhaps they could send Sarah Palin to the Siberian salt mines :-))

Amazing how people denigrate Sarah Palin, and remain strangely silent about the ignorance and stupidity of Barack Hussein Obama that she warned us about.

Oh, that's right, she's a white, conservative woman who believes in the constitution AND thinks so is therefore evil.

The thought of Russia trying to retake Alaska is in and by itself just idiotic. So if thats why people give Palin a hard time, its because they have a good reason for it.

But honestly, every time that women gives a speech all you get is a garbled mess of words that don't even form coherent sentences. That women could have had a stroke and no one has noticed. I think thats why people make fun of her instead.

Tina Fey looks very much like Palin.
It was very confusing when they acted together:)

A better trade would be Obama to Russia with nothing in return, but then the US would be guilty of spreading pollution.

You do understand, that any silly comment against me, from a handful of Posters:

Is taken as a compliment.

Clyde Sarge's comment was not silly, your perception of reality I find to be weird.
