I want to even out the credit i have between projects. Seti has 3600 credit and lhc in 2 place has 902. I plan on running seti until 4000 then detaching. then run cpdn and detach and repeat the process until all of the projects except pirates are at 4000 credits. So I will be detached for quite a while.

Why not just change the % of time allocated to each project, such that the projects which have gotten little time get the bulk of CPU time available?

The option is "Resource Share" under the projects options. Perhaps try giving LHC a resource share about 5-10 times greater then SETI and see if this starts to even up...

yeah i tried that but it didnt work. The reason that is so lopsided isn't time allocation anyways. It's that seti ALWAYS has work to be done. Every time i go to the status page there is atleast a quarter to a half million wus to pass out. Every time i try to connect to get only some lets say... predictor work I usually will get hit with another seti wu. 4.57 can suspend each project individually but when you suspend a project it still is allowed to connect to thee network for some reason and picks up a wu.

solution: It is rather cruel but i could let it download a wu while the project is suspended. that way when i connect it wont quiry the site for work. It would actually not be too bad since it sends 4 copies of the same wu but only need three to validate now. I will just keep the 4th copy and the other three people won't have to wait for me.

Hi Roland, just a note to let you know that Dr. Dave checked in a change this week, so that when you suspend a project now, boinc will no longer issue RPC requests to the project. Of course, we will have to wait for V4.58 to benefit from this change.

Are you trying to leave us, Roland? Don't you know the wrath of Dogbytes by now? ;)

The % of time does work. All you do after you updated the site first is update the project in BOINC that you just changed. Or all 3, or 6.

If you set the amount of days Seti should contact the server in to 0 and (re)set the percentage for it to 0 or 1, then Seti won't download new units. I tried this, it works.

Thanks Darrell for the info. Is there by any chance I can get on that mailing list since i always use the newest alpha version anyway. Ageless, just to let you know I'm probably right up there with dogbytes (ask on the team forums about the martin luther king jr speech thing). Plus I will reattach once all the other projects are caught up. Plus your still using 4.54 anyways. It's a lot diffrent.

It shouldn't matter. BOINC is supposed to allocate your CPU time among the work units you have downloaded according to your allocation request. So even if you have a SETI work unit, BOINC will still give most of the time to a unit from another project with a higher resource priority (assuming such a unit is available -- if not the choice becomes one of processing SETI or letting your computer go idle).
