Is "BOINC Statistics for the WORLD!" down? For the last month or more I've been getting the following when I try to access it:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: str_split() in /home/setisy/public_html/stats/boinc-individual.php(1) : regexp code(1) : eval()'d code(1) : regexp code on line 1

No big deal -- I can live without it. Just wondering if they're down or if my computer is somehow screwed up?

Working fine here with Firefox, but didn't someone mention a month or 2 back that there was a problem with that site when using the latest I.E.?

Cheers.

Yes it is a problem with the latest update to IE.

Apparently other browsers work fine.

Thanks to both of you guys! I'm using IE. Had some Firefox issues on other web sites so I don't want to change the default browser. Like I said, I can live without that site, just wondering what was going on.

Again, Thanks!

This problem started several months ago and IE 11 was working fine at that site until then and it's really a pain in my Gluteus Maximus. I really would like those that own the site to fix it as I really like it, as I've have problems with Firefox, etc. and I refuse to put chrome on my machine.

For those out there who would like the positive side of Chrome without the risks can I recommend.

Comodo Dragon Browser.

Or if you prefer Firefox there is

Ice Dragon

Have a look at the links and see.

Tried the Firefox alternative and it has taken me an hour to just get it to the point where I can see list of bookmarks. Don't like it.

... where I can see list of bookmarks ...

It's Ctrl+Shift+B for most browsers and Ctrl+Shift+O for Chromium variants, e.g. for SRWare Iron / IronPortable
http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_download.php

(No, I don't know which is the hot-key for IE)

If IE stopped working altogether (not showing any sites, not just the statistics site you first asked about), I'd suspect a malware infection or at best a failed M$ security update.

Worth checking in either case.

Do you use Norton? They sent out a bad patch last nite that causes ie to crash. They have now sent out a corrective patch, so you should be good, or just run the Norton Live Update.

Thank you, sir -- you were absolutely right. I applied Norton Live Update and now all is well with IE.

What is the general opinion of Opera, both functionally and for security?

The current version(s) of Opera are based on the same Chrome base code as Google's Chrome.

I use Opera on occasion, and versus Google Chrome I find it a little bit faster on initial "cold" loading from disk and page rendering is a bit faster. You can use the same plug-in's as the Chrome browser. As with any software or browser it is always best to do use the custom install to make sure it does not do things you do not want it to do - like be you default browser, etc. It has a few (minor) features you don't find in the Google Chrome browser.

Security wise I see no difference between Opera and Google Chrome except it does not appear to be reporting everything you do back to Google or anyone else if you tweak/set it correctly (disable auto search via address bar, etc).

For the past 6 months or so I have been using SlimJet as my default browser, it is also built on the Chrome codebase. Only problem I have with it is they are about one or two versions behind the current Chrome version. After installing their browser I have to manually copy over the latest versions of Chrome's Pepper Flash to the correct folder which is not a big deal for me only taking an extra minute or two. Their current Beta version is "Chrome 40" based.
