I have been audited once because I claimed a large number of medical expenses. After sending them copies of over 100 checks, they agreed that my taxes were correct. I am currently doing my own taxes but I may need a professional in the future when I need to draw money from a trust.

Epilogue: I donated $10 to Seti last year. My itemized deductions exceeded the standard deduction by $9.

I still haven't done the state. Must remember that. IRS says I'll get my refund in a couple days.

Got my Federal refund on Thursday.

Tried to do my state return today and the site wouldn't work. I entered my W2, but when I tried to do some 1099s it wouldn't let me enter any info. This has always been easy in the past.

Says they all opted to have their TT fees paid out of their refunds. I did not, I paid TT up front and took my refund directly from the IRS.

Still can't get the state site to work. I may have to do it on paper, or bite the bullet and pay TT their extra pound of flesh for it.

Please be aware of this issue with regards to TurboTax.
Client purchased the software at Walmart and when she tried to submit it, it tried to charge her over 1,300 in fees.

I hope they get this hacking in control soon. Competions is good, but what I am seeing lately is not.

Well I hope she called her bank and other agencies as soon as she clicked no. Who ever hacked that TT package has her SS number and everything else they need. Just because she didnt pay that outrages fee dosent mean she is safe.

Got my state refund last Friday, without paying TT's fee for filing it. Still think the state's web site was better before, though.

Uh, TT is Intuit, they are in the loan business. The bigger the refund, the bigger the fee they want to extract. Jackals.

Thanks for the advice Jim, but I thought basing fees on refunds was illigal. Anyway, it got excepted and I don't think she will go the TT route again.
I will suggest that she files a report with the BBB and the IRS.

And I thought charging interest about the maximum permitted was illegal.

Those have been illigal on a Federal Level for a few years now, but I think Liberty uses a State Bank (Republic) and can still offer it.

I thought so too Gary, but I think this went out the window some time ago, especially when it comes to Credit Card interest and just one late payment eons ago.

Chase is my !@#$%^&&*.

Late once, because of bad weather. One frigging day. Of course the post office will not honor that, neither will Chase on the post mark.

Rant off

A couple months ago, I dropped off a check at a local Chase branch to pay my credit card for the month. To the penny. Stupid teller misread the numbers on my check and didn't credit me for about $50. I admit the number was a bit unclear, but it was also written out and there was no mistaking that. And I drove away without looking at the receipt until the next day when I checked online and saw the problem. I called and wove my way through voice prompt hell and finally convinced a real person there was a problem, and they found the image of my check and agreed with me, so I got the payment corrected and the interest charges deleted, but it was still annoying. And of course they had transmitted the check electronically to the bank it was drawn from in the wrong amount, so about a week later the correction came through on that account as well.

Always, ALWAYS, if you are the type that pays off your card each month and in a particular month you fail to (for whatever reason), make SURE you make at least the minimum payment on your statement by the due date. If you go past the due date and pay it off on the last day of the cycle, they will still charge you a late fee. In the above case, I made a mid-month payment just to make sure, even though everything had been straightened out.
