I hope that something happens soon or my main rig's GPU's are going to be looking for backup work again. :-(

Oh for the old days when things ran well after an outrage. ;-)

Cheers.

FYI,
I had contact with Eric ...
He said 'if everything will go like it should' then at 24 Feb AP will be online again.
You see it's not 100 % sure. So please don't shoot Eric or me if AP will be still offline. ;-)

AFAIK, if BOINC want contact to the server, and get 5 or 6 times no well answer back, then master file will be downloaded. (for to download the 'new' server URLs).

At last at least an informed rumor. Or call it an informed WAG. But at least better than dead silence. Given my experience with predictions I am penciling in March 1 for things to be somewhat "normal"

Just to be clear "master file" is master_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml:
<scheduler>http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi</scheduler>
<link rel="boinc_scheduler" href="http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi">

Things most often do not go as planned. So I would call anything before March 24th a success. :D

Hi Dirk,

Did he by any chance happen to mention when the comms problem is going to be sorted out? I'm getting more than a little tired of getting 'unable to contact server' error messages from BOINC.

This has been ongoing for days now, and the downtime hasn't resulted it it being sorted out.

Regards,
Cliff,
Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt!

Sure acts like major traffic slams or database hits after each maintenance window that persist for a day or more. Traffic's getting through, but when a database-driven web page take 90 seconds or more to load, as it is right now, there's not much chance of successful downloads or reporting before the sessions time out.

I think you are very right Jim. After maintenance the sudden surge in work just seems to bring the whole thing crumbling down.

I would suggest leaving the validators and simulators off line until network traffic and database normalize, then hit the database with the full load of work.

Only data-driven web page not loading from here is the tasks page. Everything else loads instantaneously. I wonder which server is having problem. Also could someone explain the blue line of the cricket graph? Average out (wehat ever it means) is staying very high, does this mean anything?

Typically that is the server loading up with new files to split, but I'm not sure if that is the case at this time.

Thank you for the info.
So it possibly means that system is using up all the traffic and we can't communicate with servers???

My machine got through to the server ok, but the feeder was empty. 400 thousand tasks in ready to send, but i'm beaten to them. sigh.

And yet they're still there, ready to send, so you didn't get beat. Very little is getting sent out in response to work requests. No way to know, but a wild guess that the scheduling server isn't giving split results to the download servers??
