Has the Anti-Virus eaten the CPU apps, try restarting Boinc and post the Boinc startup.

"Couldn't connect to server" is the most popular, "HTTP internal server error" isn't too far behind it though. And every so often it's "Failure when receiving data from the peer".

The computer doesn't even recognize the AVG antivirus program anymore, my internet is completely unprotected on this computer. It doesn't want to run malwarebytes, nor spybot. I followed Glenn's advice and dusted it out a bit but it didn't help much.

That is not a good sign.

Download Mbam on another computer, save it to a USB thumb drive but re-name it (eg something.exe). Save it to the desktop of the problem computer & then run it as Administrator (Right click, Run as Administrator) from there.

After you've done that Julie, run HijackThis to see what sort of damage to files may have been done (and if something bad may have been missed).

The infected PC's that I've had here lately have had that many missing or destroyed files that it's been easier and quicker just to do a full format and reinstall of all software.

I had a virus called "help_decrypt"
It came from a flashdrive that had only pictures on it. Nothing else.
I plugged it into my machine and it passed the virus scan.
Next morning all my movies, music, pictures ETC had a file in the same directory called help_Decrypt.

When I clicked on a movie or picture it said pay 500 bucks and we will decrypt your system.

yeah I'm sure they would.
The only cure was a complete wipe.

Ransom ware is so nasty I wish the police would do something about it.
At least a flogging with fishhooks on a rope.
Writers that do this to computers are psychotics and need to be dealt with as such.

You're actually not toooo terribly far off on that one. Except the "paid professionals" are called "ethical hackers." They get paid by a company to FIND vulnerabilities and exploits, which often means writing code to do so. And then they have to figure out how to fix said exploits. Supposedly, it's all "for the greater good," but I'm sure some of their handiwork ends up "accidentally" leaving the contained system/testbed once in a while.

I just browse the web smartly. If I need to go to sketchy sites.. load up a VM and do it in there, preferably Linux, but sometimes it has to be Windows. If the VM gets infected.. oh well.. nuke it and unpack the 7-zipped backup of the VM. ...of course that doesn't do any good if a flash drive is infected though. Avira is pretty good about catching things on flash drives, and I have autoplay disabled globally for extra safety.

Yes it's been that way for weeks I think, wonder what it is.

Only been occurring for a day or 2, and still happening at the moment.
I think it started around the time Eric fixed up the Scheduler code to block VLARs from GPUs again. Something else may have broken in the process.
You can see the effect on the network traffic- lots of little dips & spikes instead of the usual solid green with the odd blip.

Back (ish), but not much is happening. Let's hope it doesn't come back up as badly as it did last Tuesday, when it was bogged down for many many hours after the outage ended.

Edit: And as I thought, no sign of life from the AP part of the project.
