Message 1632342 - Posted: 24 Jan 2015, 20:47:25 UTC

I was checking out the Top GPU models list today & noticed something strange.
The unique name I modified BOINC to display of "ATI Radeon HD 6870 (Barts XT)" for my hosts 5837483 & 7421701 is displayed. Rather than the BOINC default of "AMD Radeon HD 6790/6850/6870 series (Barts)". I had thought this list was generated only using data from the stock apps, but it looks to be including data from Anonymous platform apps as well. Which makes it much more useful.
From what I can tell there may be a requirement of two hosts with the same GPU to have it listed. Like the CPU list requiring at least 10 hosts for the CPU to be listed.

A bit worrying to see the GTX 980 coming in at number 14

Perhaps it takes a while to build up in the ranks?
Also the performance most likely doesn't take into account the number of tasks being run at once. I would imagine those high end cards are running 3+ tasks at once.

I think it's also been said that the GTX 980 is, frankly, too powerful to make effective use of the applications and (comparatively) short, simple tasks we run here. Now, if you were to try one out at GPUGrid, which has just occupied one of my GTX 670s for 38 hours solid, you might get a better idea what it is capable of.

The current applications are barely making full use of the previous generations abilities, the fact is there hasn't been any development specifically for Maxwell based cards released at all.
Maxwell running CUDA5 applications is like Kepler running CUDA32 applications- not very efficient, as they don't take advantage of the hardware's capabilities, but as that's all there is then it's what we have to use.

If you were to look at work done per watt of power used, even with these less than efficient applications they would still be the leaders when it comes to power efficiency.

Indeed it is.
I do wonder if providing of list with GFLOPs might be more useful. Somewhat like the CPU list.

Here's something interesting. It seems a Cayman has appeared on the Linux AMD list, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/gpu_list.php. I don't recall seeing a Cayman on that list prior to me switching my host from Vista to Ubuntu. I switched back to Vista for about a day and the Cayman disappeared from the Linux list. I switched back and the Cayman reappeared. If that is my Cayman, it would seem the Anonymous platform GPUs are reflected on the list as my host is running under Anonymous platform and the GPU isn't even listed on the details page. Seems BOINC sees my Vista host as having 2 Caymans whereas it sees the Linux host as having 2 Capeverdes...more strangeness.

Yes, In the discussion that Joe provided a link to. Dr. Anderson mentioned "I fixed a bug in the script, and changed it to include anonymous platform hosts."

Kinda makes you wonder why there aren't any Barts listed in the Mac column. This Host has 3 of them that are producing around 70k a day, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6796479. I think that is a little more than a HD 6630M can produce...

Here's at least 3 Different Barts hosts;
1) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6796479
2) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6277950

I often see "AMD ATI Radeon Barts XT Prototype" listed under the Mac column. I don't think I have seen it listed since the other day when mine vanished from the listing. There are normally more GPUs listed under the Intel Mac column as well.

I think they all vanished after the AP assimilators ran and cleaned up all of the old work. So instead of number of hosts. The numbers are probably only calculated when there are more than N results for a specific GPU. Looking over the code I think the limit may be 500.
