It seems the only way I can keep getting a good deal on internet/TV service is to switch providers after their "introductory" rate runs out. Century link was OK but they could not provide TV service using the out of date phone cabling in my area thus requiring me to have Direct TV satellite service. So now that their rates have almost doubled I am switching back to Comcast/X-finity for at least the next two years. So I may be out of communication for a day or two. If they don't show up in 2 hr. appt. time. Make sure they give you $20.00 credit. |

I opted for self install as my computer guru neighbor instigated this change and promised to do the hookup but as it turns out he is unavailable until Friday morning. But billing doesn't start until it is connected and I won't terminate my existing service until comcast is up and running. Well it is now Sunday and Everything is back up and running with comcast as my IP. So tomorrow morning I'll be calling Direct TV and Centurylink and telling them to discontinue service. Would you believe I have a friend who still has dial-up internet? He is *finally* thinking about getting DSL, but he's worried about the cost. (He budgets all of his expenses *very precisely*.) We have a user here and I have a co-worker that still use dial up. Come to think of it my Aunt and Uncle may still use it too. Hey if it works for them, more power to them. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

My service is through Time Warner Cable, no tv, no contract, just internet at 2Mbit. 4x faster than dialup. It's a shame that ISP's are throtteling internet access, especialy when they have a large area monopolies. Most places have no contract plans but they are usualy much slower than contract plans. Upstream bandwidth is usualy the same accross the board unless you pay for Commercial access. If you feel stuck in a contract you can usualy get out of it easily through commerce and trade laws that void any contract that forces you to pay a higher price that is not an area average. It's a pain to fight if you cant read the contracts fine print which usualy does point directly to the specific laws regarding contract void if... |

It's a shame that ISP's are throtteling internet access, especialy when they have a large area monopolies. They must throttle the cable pretty bad. Dialup is 56k baud (bits/sec) at best. Besides that, the RS232 interface is unable to run much faster that that (we tried it using some really good RS232 drivers - had to go TTL instead). |

Mine is also like Jorge, through TWC, on cable I have no problem, on the TV side, I have a problem, My TV needs a firmware upgrade from Mitsubishi to work properly with a 2way CableCard, Mit's says they have an upgrade, I asked for a waiver in their policy of only sending firmware updates to customers houses via USPS, since mailing addresses out here are only to PO Boxes at the local Post Office, it's not like the USPS Post master there can't hold the package for Me to sign, they could, Mitsubishi's current policy just sucks. They said if the request was granted I'd have My upgrade to My 9 year old WD-57731 TV in about 7 working days. I've gotten error 161-1 and 161-50 on the screen, but otherwise the card does work, to an extent, I just can't get beyond the cable card menu to pair the TV and the card with each other, though currently I can get a channel called Create, the TLC, Los Angeles locals, versions of KLCS, KCET, most in HD, some at 480i and a few others...
