Please allow me to introduce myself :)

Chances are you've never heard of MBTI types but if you want to, you could start at Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INTJ

If you have some time to waste and would like to read an amusing (and painfully accurate) description of an INTJ, well here you go:
http://intjcentral.com/the-compleat-idiots-guide-to-the-intj/

If you don't feel like clicking on external links today, I've pinched some quotes and added them below.

Anyway, Chris has pointed out somewhere that it's important to know who you are dealing with on the internet so I thought I'd lay myself bare. Besides INTJ I'm pretty much apolitical (so what are you doing here you little s***?) and Wiki has the gall to call me apathetic. Apathetic Atheist that is, meaning I find no real day-to-day relevance in whether God exists or not and don't really care.

In addition, I am severely allergic to:

-dogma (any form)
-narrow minded people
-successful sociopaths
-spiel
-small talk
-default mode political correctness
-poor work/craftsmanship
-insincerity
-inefficiency
-irrationality
-heads in clouds
-excessive emotions

I'm going to make such a fun father someday ;)

Thread rules: None. Comments, questions, and snarky remarks are all welcome here. This isn't a manifesto:)

-----------

"They have a low tolerance for spin or rampant emotionalism. They are not generally susceptible to catchphrases and do not readily accept authority based on tradition, rank, or title."

"The emotions of an INTJ are hard to read, and neither male nor female INTJs are apt to express emotional reactions. At times, INTJs seem cold, reserved, and unresponsive, while in fact they are almost hypersensitive to signals of rejection from those they care for. In social situations, INTJs may also be unresponsive and may neglect small rituals designed to put others at ease. For example, INTJs may communicate that idle dialogue such as small talk is a waste of time. This may create the impression that the INTJ is rude or in a hurry—an impression that is not always intended, and may not be true at all"

-Wikipedia

We don’t do feelings.
"We use critical thinking, reason, and logic. We have a tough time with people who make decisions based on emotions, and we can often come across as blunt and cold because we ignore the feelings of others. But on the plus side, we take criticism well since we have no feelings to hurt."

We are self-confident.
"No type is more self-confident than the INTJ. We have a very keen awareness of our own knowledge and abilities, and – more importantly – of the limits of our knowledge and abilities. Consequently we can come across as arrogant sometimes. This is your problem to deal with, not ours, since it is a problem of erroneous perception (yours)."

Q: Is it dangerous to annoy an INTJ?

A: First we will ignore you, then we will launch a volley of extremely witty but esoteric insults that will probably go right over your head, and finally we will just engage the “nod-and-smile” autopilot and go back to ignoring you. Best to leave us alone at this point. If you push us too far we may blow up your head with our telekinetic abilities. So, yes, it can be dangerous to annoy an INTJ.

Q: My INTJ doesn’t care about me any more after he tried to explain his idea and I didn’t listen. What should I do?

A: Ideas are of prime importance to INTJs, and disregarding or not listening to our ideas is the highest form of insult. Although INTJs do not hold grudges, neither do we go out of our way to associate with people who don’t give serious consideration to our ideas. You’ll be in damage control mode for quite some time, fighting an uphill battle to get back into our good graces.

Your personality type is: ISTP

While their mechanical tendencies can make them appear simple at a glance, ISTPs are actually quite enigmatic. Friendly but very private, calm but suddenly spontaneous, extremely curious but unable to stay focused on formal studies, ISTP personalities can be a challenge to predict, even by their friends and loved ones. ISTPs can seem very loyal and steady for a while, but they tend to build up a store of impulsive energy that explodes without warning, taking their interests in bold new directions.
Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge.

Oh wow! I'm so happy to see this thread exploding... I was expecting it to be pretty much ignored :) And a cameo by Steve no less! You guys all made my day, thank you :)

@Celt LOL, just... LOL!!

@Мишель Ahahaaa! True, true. But then again, I'm woefully uneducated in politics. I tend to follow economics more, which I find likelier to be the driving force behind what's really going on in the world. On a side note I'm surprised you know what an EpiPen is :) That's some serious vocabulary! Have you ever lived in an English-speaking country? Oh, and I need a Latin based version of your handle - Мишель - if possible. Since I can read Greek, Cyrillic unfortunately makes my brain hurt and my eyes water :) No offense.

@CLYDE, Chris S, Simonator, and The SciMan:
It's awesome that you guys actually went to the trouble of taking the test. I'm sure you will find it was time well spent. And true to my INTJ nature, I hate wasting peoples' time! Hope you find the info as useful as I did.

and finally

@Glenn When I said snarky remarks are welcome, I thought it obvious I meant those directed at ME. And just so we are clear, I'm not trying to defend CLYDE as he is obviously (I'm happy to say) capable of defending himself. I'm suggesting you choose another way of getting whatever point it is you are trying to get across, because the one you have chosen ain't working mate.

Alex, thank you for starting this thread. I just read it for the first time today...oddly enough after being told to do a Myers-Briggs type test for my college course (and being unable to because the text book has not yet arrived from Amazon...grrr)

So I had literally just spend sometime searching up Myers -Brigg personality tests when I decided to take a break and catch up on seti..and here you were.

So my results:

Personality: INTP

Variant: Turbulent

Role: Analyst

"The INTP personality type is fairly rare, making up only three percent of the population, which is definitely a good thing for them, as there's nothing they'd be more unhappy about than being "common". INTPs pride themselves on their inventiveness and creativity, their unique perspective and vigorous intellect. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history."

Well, I'm in the right field then...

EDIT: Just reading though the rest of the profile and it says I should definitely get a wife. I'll get right on that. (not sure how the husband will take it though)

Not a bad assumption to start from when discussing world events :)

And I've lived in Manchester for half a year. But I think my English speaking skills are mostly thanks to watching a lot of English cartoons when I was younger. Also, I've spend the last 9 years on English speaking forums and the study I do is in English. So I've got a lot of practice!

My latin name is Michiel, so you can use that if you want.

I took the test twice, changing some answers that I was uncertain about. The first time I came back as INTP, and it fit to some extent, but I didn't think it fit me overall.

The second time I took the test, I came out as INTJ. The description seem to fit me much better, though I never saw myself as having high self-confidence.

Is it common for INTPs and INTJs to intertwine in personality types? Or is this a lot like astrology where if you read one entry you can see yourself in it, but you can also see yourself in the rest as well?

That's the prob with this type of thing , to do a real test you need to sit a barrier test 8 hrs of tests not just 30 or so questions , change a few answers and you get a different outcome .

Es99 if you know how Einstein lived then just don't do what he did , but then your a girl so girls act differently to men anyway so it may be good for a chick but maybe not so good for a bloke .
