I believe that you've established that:-

part of it's surface is normally tacky (non-slip),

it fits into something else as part of it's function.

The cup gave an approximate size.

In operation, it does not live in my office, where I photographed it. It's operational location, I think, would be too much of a clue.

Nothing to do with catching flies.

I saw it in a specialist type of shop, and bought it. I don't think it's been advertised on TV. At least not in the UK.
