God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent-it says so right here on the label. If you have a mind capable of believing all three of these divine attributes simultaneously, I have a wonderful bargain for you. No checks, please. Cash and in small bills.

An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in any god or gods, an Agnostic is someone who doesn't claim to know for sure that any gods exist or not. A subtle difference. I think I'm a cross between the two. I'm damn sure that no Gods exist, but if I get incontrovertible proof that they do, then so be it. Yep 75% Atheist, 25% Agnostic.

In the meantime the new list seems pretty reasonable rules for a fair society to me. As God said to Moses when he said he had a headache "keep taking the tablets".

Everybody can believe what he wants so long it doesn`t hurt another person or life form.

The only problem I have with the list is number 5. If there is to be some sort of "Non-commandments", I don't think it should mention God at all, as to do so would somehow valid and acknowledge a "black sheep" type argument.

That's putting aside the fact that even having 10 Non-Commandments will bring the religious nuts in claiming, "See! I told you Atheism is a religion! They have their own Commandments now too. They're trying to take over!"

Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color.

I do believe in God tho, I'm just not subscribed to any religion...

I used to be like you for many years. I disliked organized religion, but I was certain there had to be a god of some sort. It was very comforting to think that in this crazy Universe, someone was in control and had a plan, and that when I die, I'd be able to return to my loved ones.

But the more I kept trying to define this God, mainly because people kept asking me questions about my beliefs, the more I realized that I was essentially creating my own fantasy based upon no evidence and no logic. It was all pure "feeling" and that wasn't enough.

Eventually I learned to simply let go of that belief and accept that once we die, that's it. It made living life that much more important to me instead of only focusing on the end game (death and afterlife).

Just my opinions though. You could say my journey is somewhat similar to Julia Sweeney's Letting Go of God. The Universe doesn't need belief or faith to exist, nor a Creator to make people good.

The spiritual world really scares me that's why I'm always busy with empirical science if I'm not distracted by someone with other ideas. To be rational would be my motto, rational and realistic. I'm a bit like you Ozzfan, except I'm too easily influenced or I'm too 'open'. Someone once told me I was an emotional vacuumcleaner:))

I just watched the last episode of "Saving Grace". The ending wasn't pretty. Let's just say she died with her eyes wide open and her boots on.

The plot focuses on Grace Hanadarko, a heavy drinking and promiscuous Oklahoma City detective. In the series opener, Grace meets up with her "last-chance" angel, when after a night of drinking she runs down and kills a pedestrian with her Porsche. In desperation she calls out for God's help, and a scruffy, tobacco-spitting man who calls himself Earl appears. Unfolding his wings to reveal his divine origins, Earl tells her that she's headed for Hell, and asks if she's ready to turn her life over to God. When he finally disappears, the person she struck is also gone and it's as if the accident never happened. The only evidence left is a small amount of the victim's blood on her blouse, which she brings to her best friend, forensics expert Rhetta Rodriguez , to analyze. With Rhetta's help, Grace discovers that the victim in her accident is actually a man awaiting execution on death row, Leon Cooley. When she visits Cooley in prison, he reveals that he has also had encounters with Earl.

Here are the "Ten Non-Commandments" chosen as the winners:

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.

Fine (and a good counterpoint to "I am the Lord thy God...").

2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.

3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.

These two kind of go together.

4. Every person has the right to control of their body.

A tad specific to political issues in the US, but it also applies in other situations.

5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.

Agree that this is not necessary.

6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.

Fine.

7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.

These also go together.

9. There is no one right way to live.

10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Both good.

So I shot down three of them. Sorry, but I would have left in "don't kill," "don't steal," and "don't bear false witness" (actually I would shorten that one to "don't lie").

I'll get into my belief system later.

Actually, you can be (and appear to be) 100% both. Atheist = lack of belief, and agnostic = lack of any claim of knowledge one way or another.

"Don't murder", "don't steal" and "don't bear false witness" is taken into account:

7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

It's not called the "Golden Rule" for nothing, you know. :^)

Also I'm predicting this is gonna end up in Politics.
