KLik, it almost seems like you get angry at those of us who choose to continue to refer to Pluto as a planet. I know it is technically a dwarf planet and a KBO object. But I don't see those of us who want to call pluto simply a planet as a mob or ignorant or simple minded. Can't we have a difference of opinion without you calling us names. You have taken the whole situation way too seriously as if you have a financial stake in the matter.

Bob, read "The bridge on the Drina" by Ivo Andric if you want to understand Serbs and Croats. I had a Serbian aunt who spoke nine languages. Josip Broz Tito was a Croat. If the had chosen Milovan Gilas, a Serb, as president of the Yugoslav Federative Republic there might still be a Yugoslavia.

Scentifically and astronomically, Pluto is now a Kuiper belt object and a Dwarf planet. But there is no reason why the public, and those that wish too, cannot continue to call it a full planet if they want to. Both views can exist side by side, the thing still looks the same through a telescope whatever you call it!

Give it 50 or 60 years and there will be hardly anyone around that remembers it as it was anyway, and all the text books will have been re-written. By default in time the controversy will simply fade away of it's own accord.

In the meantime, choose your weapons :-))

preaching like a true "Plutonian"!
:D :D :D

well...there's a saying in my country by a famous novelist, who has been nominated for a Nobel laureate in literacy few times...and it goes:
"Only thing in this crazy world, change constant is!"

I doubt it Tullio. The constituents of Yugoslavia were part of the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires for centuries, but when they came together they simply couldn't live in peace with each other. So they all broke up and went their separate ways.

I know. From my workplace in Trieste Area Science Park I heard gunfire in 1991 when Slovenia achieved independence. Now Slovenia is part of the European Community, Croatia is next and then Serbia. When I and my girlfriend, later my wife, went to Punta Salvore for bathing, we had only to cross one border with a Propusnica pass. Now I would have to pass two borders, one into Slovenia and the other into Croatia. But all churches and monuments in Istria, now Croatia, bear the Saint Marc Lion, a symbol of Venice.

That was Yoda in Star wars :-D

nope...the translation is similar to Yoda, 'cause of the different grammar in that sentence than usually in Croatian language!

but you can check it out, if you find a Croatian who has been nominated for a Nobel prize in literacy for a 5 times! ;)

didn't think you were one of the nationalists (better not to tell other word), which wants an Istria for Italy?! :P

btw, you still have to cross 1 border...Schengen zona is from Slovenia inside! ;)
but we're in EU... :P

I simply state a fact which is visible on every church in Istria. This does not mean that I want Istria back in Italy. But when in Punta Salvore I approached a woman for some information and asked if she spoke Italian she answered "benedeti no parlo altro".Punta Salvore is now Croatia.

I was in Zagreb in 1990 when Place Marshal Tito was renamed Bano Jelacic. I then went to Portoroz in Slovenia for a marketing meeting of my firm where Serbs and Croats, working for my firm, would not speak to each other and communicated through me, an Italian speaking English. Then I understood Yugoslavia was going to explode.

Point is Julie, that they think the is some evidence for a large object out there, but until it is found they don't know what it might be. In the meantime tabloid headlines seem the order of the day.

If the Heliosphere has already been mapped, how is it possible they haven't noticed an object of that size, is what I wonder. They are also talking about the influence the object might have on the orbit of smaller objects in the outer regions of our solar system. My main concern is that the mainstream media will make people believe this and it won't be true after all, believe me. I think it's Caltech, trying to get some media attention because nothing new and exciting happened recently in the field of Astronomy.

Caltech runs the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in behalf of NASA, so most USA unmanned missions are managed by Caltech. They have lots of experience and what they affirm must be taken seriously.
