Message 1625079 - Posted: 7 Jan 2015, 20:12:54 UTC - in response to Message 1625067.

This may seem odd, but here goes:

Mark Sattler e-mailed all at the lab and got a reply, I will paste his post from the BIONC boards.

Some news from the kitties that should be relayed to Panic Mode in NC that might explain a few things for some folks.

Matt has explained to me that the AP database is not fully healed, and automated processes are working in the background to complete repairs. It may be some weeks yet before this has been completed.

So, that is the reason that the AP assimilators have been offline, and the AP waiting for assimilation queue has been growing. Since that work has to be stored temporarily until assimilation can commence, that storage space has filled up, and that is the primary reason that the AP splitters are working so slowly...nowhere to go with the work.

They are going to increase the disk space for storing AP work, and that should allow the AP splitters to get back up to speed again, hopefully soon.

If that's correct, we will just have to wait. As always, the worst is not knowing what's up, for me worse than the actual problem.

This truly sucks.

sure does ... it appears to be going from bad to worse ... maybe it is time to go back to the drawing board along with a new management team ...

With enough of these guys around there's plenty for us small fish to be had. I was wondering why I had a lot of _2 and _3 work. That host there.

Either it's the ultimate form of cherry picking, or he's doing something else unexplainable. ;-)

No, It's constantly getting tasks abandoned, that happens if an earlier scheduler contact gets through after a later one, ie out of sequence,
It's eithier got a very poor ISP, or some sort of backup software that restores Boinc,
But it restores a client_state.xml with an earlier <rpc_seqno>, The scheduler will mark all those tasks abandoned,
If you were able to see the result from those abandoned tasks, you'll probably find that host is still crunching them.

I see your point there. Was thinking it was aborted by user, and not marked "abandoned" by either client or server. My bad.

And as I replied to the original post:

Since MB work occupies the same fanout directories as AP work, that will affect MB splitting as well. But at least we can crack on with returning MB work for assimilation, and thus recycle the limited space available.

I've been away for a week and got back to find MB & AP splitters still struggling to produce work.
It's nice to know there is a reason for it, the Lab are aware of it & the fix is being implemented.

Please remember "green stars" are user selectable, the absence of a green star does not mean a person has not donated.

I choose to not to have a green star when I donate.

Can someone thank the Kittyman for me for letting us have a idea on what's going on in the background . Thank's Mark . At least it's not a big problem once the data base is completely fixed we should be back to normal .

As for the Uber machines bad luck guys you will just have to be patient and take what ever you can get or get your machines to do 2 projects so your always getting some work done on seti and some work done on another project till the data base is fixed in a few weeks and the servers can supply everyone with heaps of work 24/7

I hadn't noticed my star disappearing from my profile and posted my donation at the end of December. After all, I felt I needed to back my favorite son project even though I won't get the neat T-shirt my donation to MilkWay gained me. My monetary donation is nothing compared to the costs of the electrical power my two crunchers accumulate over a year but at least the donation adds to the bottom line of the project directly and hopefully keeps the staff employed.

Cheers, Keith

The message boards alone are worth the price of a donation, great forum for exchanging info and ideas, not to mention humor.

And unlike Twitter, Facebook etc. ad nauseum, you are actually contributing to scientific research instead of vacuous self admiration.

Just one old man's opinion....
