Still intrigued at the use of the letter O with umlaut as an island ....

Happened to come across this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/04/15/minnesotas-great-umlaut-war-is-over-also-minnesota-was-having-an-umlaut-war/.

And coming to think of it, how come in English the symbol "I" refers to a word?

The long answer.
In linguistics Omljud, "umlaut" (from German "sound alteration") is a sound change whereby a vowel is pronounced more like a following vowel or semivowel and is also used to replace hyphens in Germanic languages. The term umlaut was originally coined in connection with the study of the Germanic languages — except from Gothic — where the process occurred prominently in the history of many of these languages (see Germanic umlaut).

The short answer.
It's more easy to use Omljuds then try to spell Diphthongs.

And Ö (Island )is the general name for Holme, Kobbe, Skär, Klippa...
Perhaps Ö looks like three islands:)

And "I". Must be a lazy viking who came up with that:)

Short Words for animals.
Lo Lynx.
Ã…l Eel.
Ko Cow.
Bi Bee.

That did it, My TV went 'POP' this morning, so I need to buy a new lamp for the TV, there goes $31.39, at least it will be here by Tues the 21st, if I order today, if I can that is. So until the New credit card gets here and I order the lamp, I'll be without a TV, though I do have videos and mp3's to watch on the PC, for almost a week. Sigh.

So why is that a problem Vic?

Being the TV uses a 150w arc lamp to display a picture, the tv shuts off after a minute or two, since there is no picture detected, so for the moment, I've got a dead TV Chris.

This is a lamp for My TV.. Currently mine is dead and needs to be replaced, so that the TV will work.

Sounds like "Theater of the Mind" will be playing for you Vic. That is until you get your replacement part.

So far I took a nap(quick someone call the coppers, I stole some sleep.. ;) ), then went outside and sprayed some weeds, it's what the park wants Me to do in My space, I've got half of that done, that has taken two days to do, I'll get some more done later, My back is the limiting factor here, being 6'1" and 392lbs isn't fun, it can be quite painful in fact..

Lots of music and videos to watch, a game to play on War Commander to participate in(a long term activity), there I'm updating My metal mining and oil production facilities, first the metal, then the oil..

Thank you.

Last Saturday I walked the entire tidal basin where all the cherry trees are in Washington D.C. They were on day one of their 3 day peak. This was my fourth trip to our nation's capital, but it was the first time I had ever had the good luck to get the timing right for those legendary cherry blossoms. It was spectacular!

I feel your pain, I went to use my HP 5500c Flat Bed scanner today, the lamp would not light. I tried to find the replacement bulb or assembly only to discover NO ONE has any. No one makes any.

So basically what was originally a $299 scanner is now a boat anchor........

I will never purchase a Hewlett Packard product again(15 years a loyal customer). Ever.

Got a new Canon scanner en-route from Amazon but that doesn't help me today.

:(

I have a Canoscan 9950F scanner, it works, even if the driver is 4 years old now.

Not quite, in a parade down main street, where I lived at the time, I was a part of the Color Guard, Boy Scouts are are not conscripts and the organization is all volunteer, not Government run at all.

Similar to this Janneseti..
