We have Norwegian roof rats out here and I'm pretty sure that I inadvertently feed them when I throw birdseed out for my little feathered friends. The only rats we ever see are old, sick, slow ones and even then not very often... but they are out there. They're just stealthy.

Anyway, the "FOM" (Friends of Mickey) have to eat too!!! If we didn't have FOM running around, what would the hawks eat?

For mouse lovers everywhere

Wee, sleekit, cowran, tim'rous beastie,
O, what a panic's in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty,
Wi' bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an' chase thee,
Wi' murd'ring pattle!

I'm truly sorry Man's dominion
Has broken Nature's social union,
An' justifies that ill opinion,
Which makes thee startle,
At me, thy poor, earth-born companion,
An' fellow-mortal!

I doubt na, whyles, but thou may thieve;
What then? poor beastie, thou maun live!
A daimen-icker in a thrave 'S a sma' request:
I'll get a blessin wi' the lave,
An' never miss't!

Thy wee-bit housie, too, in ruin!
It's silly wa's the win's are strewin!
An' naething, now, to big a new ane,
O' foggage green!
An' bleak December's winds ensuin,
Baith snell an' keen!

Thou saw the fields laid bare an' wast,
An' weary Winter comin fast,
An' cozie here, beneath the blast,
Thou thought to dwell,
Till crash! the cruel coulter past
Out thro' thy cell.

That wee-bit heap o' leaves an' stibble,
Has cost thee monie a weary nibble!
Now thou's turn'd out, for a' thy trouble,
But house or hald.
To thole the Winter's sleety dribble,
An' cranreuch cauld!

But Mousie, thou are no thy-lane,
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' Mice an' Men,
Gang aft agley,
An' lea'e us nought but grief an' pain,
For promis'd joy!

Still, thou art blest, compar'd wi' me!
The present only toucheth thee:
But Och! I backward cast my e'e,
On prospects drear!
An' forward, tho' I canna see,
I guess an' fear!

I think the critter cafe needs a few "critters"

I actually took this on Christmas day in my local park.

Both Robin and squirrel had partaken of food provided by me.

This was Monday in another park,

Clemmer heating and a/c came out here today since they had a guy in the area, He ripped out the stuff that was used to hook up the a/c and the gas heater, so now I have a working gas heater and the portable electric heater is in the box, the cost of the repair was $192.00, but I now have heat, I just put the amount on the credit card. I also called the manager and left Her a message that Her electric heater is now ready for pickup.

The park's squirrels have gained weight by tourists nuts, but this rodent has probably munched a bit too much snacks.

Squirrel fishing :)

Some of my shipmates in the surface Navy used to fish for seagulls like that. Small solid object wrapped in aluminum foil attached to the fishing line. Once "hooked", you played the bird like a fish until it was exhausted and you cut the line, or it flew into the beam of an active radar and got cooked. Not a sport I would enjoy.

Ang is still recovering from the holidays?

Hello friends! I am recently returned from a couple of weeks in the midwest, where the weather is very cold and the people are very warm.

Thank you Vic. I couldn't resist popping in once or twice from a laptop while on vacation, but for the most part I just hung out with family on Eric's side.
