Is the GTX 770 card using more electricity than the GTX 780 ti? Thank you. |

That's 175.2 KW/h a year or 14.6 KW/h a month more for the 20w difference. Typically the full TDP isn't consumed while crunching. So the two cards could be much closer in power usage. Thank you both. I was wondering since my electricity usage, based on my bill, jumped about 100 dollars per month, since I got my four GTX cards. |

Well according to Nvidia's spec sheets the 770 uses a max of 230W while the 780Ti uses a max of 250W, but the 770 costs a lot less and I doubt that there would be a great deal of difference between the 2 crunching wise (but I could be wrong). ;-) I think I basically agree with your summary. I have been doing some playing on this and still have unanswered questions (my own ignorance). The 780Ti has twice the transistors (7bil vs 3.8bil) and has deployed those extra 3bil transistors to be able to do something (Kepler GK104 vs GK110). If the boards are just running 1 task per GPU, then the 770 has a higher base frequency (1046MHz vs 875MHz) but narrower memory bus (256bits vs 384bits) would be an earlier bottleneck. My guess would be the higher frequency is a little faster on a single TASK ... UNLESS the single TASK can take advantage of the extra GPU resources on the 780Ti. If the memory size is the same, then power consumption is probably similar. I think that more TASKS can be run in parallel on the 780Ti than the 770. The Windows GPUZ (or similar) tool will tell how much GPU compute capacity and temperature is being used and you can decide to possibly run multiple tasks per GPU if capacity exists. Using more GPU will raise its temperature and consume more power. I have also noticed that the OpenCL TASKS on projects seem to take a little more CPU that the CUDA TASKS. I have also noticed some performance changes in Kepler vs Maxwell. It all makes my head hurt. |

Architectural differences. Unfortunately it's not as simple as number of transistors, clock frequency and memory bus widths. GK110 seems to be more suited to GPGPU than GK104 is, while what we've seen of Maxwell so far in GM204 suggests even the consumer graphics oriented models have some GPGPU strengths. Yes, it's enough to make anyone's head hurt. (: Soli Deo Gloria |

Seems like it is not many extra dollars that are caused by the 4 GPU cards, based on the kw they need to run. But sure are putting out an immense amount of heat. They are capable of keeping my house warm(too warm, actually), during the night when it cools down here in Florida. |

When it is 57 outside, with all my doors and windows totally open it will not get below 68 inside. |

I think the ducting would be not a pretty sight in my house. I wonder if anyone else found a heat issue with these gpu cards. Outside overnight it was 49 here and inside stayed at 70. Perhaps I found a heat replacement for the winter. |

Miklos M. mate you live in Florida not much you can do unless get air con bro i know what you mean . Just went through the whole winter with big bay door open 24/7 to stop my place from over heating of a night and i've even started to shut the puter down now summer is here . Only thing either one of us can do is me move south and you move north to the colder areas . We love our beaches and warm weather so we have to put up with our puters turning our houses into suna's hehehehehe |

Thanks for the reply, Glenn. I am thinking about not running them during the warmer days/nights. I wonder if I will need to turn the heat on at all this winter. I guess January and February will tell. Of course my cat loves the warmth, lol. Just running the cpu's doesn't create heat for the computers. PS: I had a great time in Australia many years ago. I wonder if the electricity use by the computers is the same or less when not using the gpu cards? It sure produces almost no feel able heat when the gpu programs are shut down. |

Thanks to the power saving innovations the power used when idle is much much less then when fully utilized. Thank you both for the replies. So, I guess just running my cpu apps I save electricity and have a cooler house also. I am sure I will need to turn on the heat in the house at one point, but so far it is 580, 2x770 and 2x780's are keeping me warm. |

Hmmm... if it is 580º (ºK, ºC, or ºF) you might want to turn something down a little. :P If it were to get to warm you could try not crunching on one of the GPUs in each system to see if that lowers the room temps enough for you. Hal9000, I think Miklos means Video cards, not temps, I have a 580 in My PC, I'd run My 570 too, but the motherboard power regulators are shot and can't do more than what I'm running now, after Dec 31st I'll be able to fix that when I get a new case.
